Quick 16710 ‘94 bezel insert query
Evening all,
Just wanted to get some info on this bezel insert please as will be purchasing this watch tomorrow. Everything else looks good as far as I can tell. Am I correct in thinking this is a service insert and that the original should of had a slightly chunkier font? Was also going to ask about the bracelet as well but have read recently that the 93150 was an option on this model and the clasp code marries up date wise so no problems there. Thanks |

You can also see these serif style inserts on '90s GMTs, although I'm not sure if they're specific to certain years.

Seriffs start around mid 1990s, not the early 1990s.

Try the Rolex Reference Library forum. Bracelet codes can be found there along with many other interesting and resourceful topics.

Yes, thin font.
As much as I know it’s not the right insert, I’m still not 100% sure what the correct one would be? From the advice above a serif on a ‘94 wouldn’t be right, just a normal fat font as far as I can tell. Between the ranges of inserts, how do you know if a pepsi insert should have a blue back or a red back? And do they correspond to specific years/references? |

Here's a little more info on the blue backs vs the red back GMT inserts:
Early 5-digit GMT 16750 "Pepsi" inserts were red backs and at some point, during the early 1980s, were replaced with blue back inserts. After the transition to the blue back inserts, all "Pepsi" inserts, whether it has a plastic or sapphire crystal, were blue backs. (As a side note, I have no idea whether the ceramic GMTs are blue backs or red backs. )

Strictly as a guide, and based on my experience, an original Pepsi from the late 1980s to early 1990s would be $250 to $400 or more - based on condition, fading etc. The later serif inserts are a little more than the non serif inserts.
