Acrylic or Sapphire crystal?
Paying a good amount of dough, I'm torn between acrylic and sapphire crystal. I've read on-line the pros and cons for both. Any thoughts? thank you.

I prefer sapphire because of the shininess and clarity. Just don't drop it on a hard surface or you're screwed. Otherwise it will keep as good as new for decades.
Most importantly stick with whatever is correct for the watch you want. |

Acrylic adds warmth to a watch and easy to restore if scratched

I have an old watch wtih acrylic and two newer ones with sapphire.
After 30+ years I still cannot avoid bumping walls once in a while. ![]() Yeh the acrylic can be buffed, but only so many times. So far the sapphire has, to me, been the greatest watch invention.

Sapphire for myself, my first Submariner took a direct hit on the ground as I (Police Officer) was taking down a subject. The bezel came off but the crystal was not even scratched or showed any damage.I've hit my crystal on walls by accident and not a sign, so I believe in a sapphire crystal myself.

I have a DJ 16013 with plexi crystal and a DD president 18038 with sapphire. I love them both but like the warmth and dome look of the acrylic crystal.

Sapphire is considered as the "gold standard" but there's a certain charm to acrylic watches especially that of vintage references. Polywatch will be your best friend to buff out light scratches on acrylic crystals

I have shattered a few sapphire crystals in my day so only acrylic for me - Rolex GMT 1675, Tudor Sub 79090, and Omega SM300.

My 1970 blue shantung Date had its acrylic crystal replaced many times, as I'd whack it or something. I have a 2014 Explorer I Mk I that seems industrial.
Sapphire it is!! |
