A look at my Rolex 6426/6427

Hi Guys,

A new member here!

I was wondering if you could have a look at my recently bought Rolex from around the 60s. 34mm

Reference No. 703976 hard to guess as I cannot see it clearly. Looks like that someone tried to cross it out. On the top, there is named: Registered design and the Model No. 6426

I bought it just for pleasure and I began really to like it tough. It almost wears nothing. Therefore I am really new to the vintage watches.

I tried to do some research on it, and I am not sure if this watch is a 6427/6426.

I thought you Guys could provide me with the right information.

Attached the photos of my watch.

Whats the model?
Whats the condition?
Whats the movement?
Year of production 1961?

Any other info would be really helpful as I am quite interested in.

I also was wondering to see a prospect of this year with all Rolex models available, does something exist in a PDF format?

Look forward to hearing from you

Kind Regards,
Pat.

Model is 6426. It was common to have a case back from another model which used the same case.
The condition is fair. The dial has been repainted some time in its life. It looks like it has had a rough life but has a lot of life left. I would recommend a movement service and a new crystal. I would leave the rest untouched. There are plenty of independent watch makers on this site that can help you achieve this.
Based on the year, the movement is most likely a manual wind 1210
And what you listed as the reference number is the serial number, putting your watch right into the 1961 production run.

often the last digit of the model number would indicate a very similar model, maybe with a different bezel. so 6426 with a 6427 back is absolutely normal.

Dial was redone :(

Both the serial number and the case back both point to 1961 production date.

Nice watch - just find a better dial

Cool.

I already had in mind to change the dial and the glass and get a nice original strap. Does anyone know where can I get them?

Nevertheless, I am not sure if customizing would enhance its overall condition, as far as I know, some collectors rather prefer condition as it is? correct? :D However, in this case, I am not sure...

A completely another idea I had is to service this watch by myself. I am a beginner but really interested in watches.

What are your thoughts?

Collectors would prefer an original dial, even in poor condition. Since this dial was already redone, you are not loosing anything refinishing it (to make it look nicer) or replacing it with a correct/original dial for a 6426

Hi Guys,

Today I went to a watch repair centre in San Jose "World Time" and showed my 6426 watch to a repair technician.

He offered me a service with a replacement of glass, jewels, polishing and adjusting the movement for around 500$.

What do you think about this offer? Is it worth to invest this amount of money for this watch?

Kind Regards

TruePrecision.
