Submariner no holes case
There is no number engraved on the link next to the case. If you take the band off you will see the number inside the link on the six o'clock side. I called Rolex NYC and the woman I spoke to would not tell me that so,I took the bracelet off and there was the number.

The serial number will be engraved on the case itself... and the model number will be on the other side..

2007 or later, it is engraved on the rehaut also.

ROLEX developed the "no holes, non- drilled lug case" as a response to those
seeking a cosmetic alteration to the existing design. IMHO, it is an answer to a non-existing problem-but it might create a less secure wrist mounted timepiece. Owners being whom they are in the 21st Century, there are probably more desk/cubicle bumps than case scratches and other tool watch character case traits. For "we few, we band of tool watch brothers" that regularly dive our watches-the easily accessible spring bars and bands offer real security against losing the watch.For if one side bar is lost , the band will save it from the deep six through the remaining spring bar and band reinforcement. It does'nt leave the wrist. The Rolex bracelet does not guarantee watch retention should a lug bar fail. NATO -styled fabric or rubber bands provide an almost fail safe watch security feature. The band should be easily attached, however- and that means drilled lug case and spring bars. |

I am not a fan of the no holes cases on the sport watches.
the tips of the spring bars are thin and weak looking and do not stick inside the hole as far as the old spring bars. As an example , look at the massive solid spring bars on a sub with holes and how firmly they hold the end piece on the case and then look at the wimpy spring bars used on the no holes case. I would not trust those new spring bars not to break or come out of the lightly drilled holes in the no holes cases if you had a fall or the watch got caught up and was some how pulled from the wrist |

Correct, WD.
Whether or not size of case, vintage or modern-the design of the case lug should preclude loss of the watch. This means drilled lugs. Cosmetic or surface level attraction, the tool watch Submariner bracelet CAN disconnect. An incident recently happened off the Alaskan coast to a halibut fisherman. Two-toned submariner lost in 300 ft of salt water. Fishing rod hit hard and broke bracelet. A sizeable reward saved it with a dredge crew. Rolex has made a few faux pas with the very newest designs, not the least of which are no lug holes-all offered in hard -to-find models within boutiques. Serious watch wearers know their movement and reference numbers, and treat their tough Rolex watches with respect. My 50 yr old military red Submariner 1680 had more scratches and character than most modern watches will ever see, and used up 4 crystals. Wear a NATO nylon band in deep water or out on a boat-word to the wise. Then-read Paul Altieri's '"Last of the Best"-Google it up. |
