Three New Alpinists Coming

Just in case you missed it, an article about three new Seiko Alpinists coming out soon (or at least three new "Alpinist Inspired" models):

https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/th...ex-introducing

The new movement looks interesting, although I'm less enthusiastic about the cyclops date and display back. The price increases 25% to $750 vs. $600 for the recent Blue limited edition, which seems a little up there for a non-limited model. On the other hand, the increase may help sustain the value of previous models.

I own the Alpinist Blue SPB089, it's one of my favorite watches, so all in all I look forward to these new ones.

What do you think?

It seems to have increased in size. Now it’s 39.5mm.

Even with the hefty price increase, the value still seems there.

I think my favorite is the last one (white with yellow).

I think 39.5mm is the same size as the recent limited edition SPB089, those specs are here (click "show more"):

Wonder if the blue will return.

I have the original in green.

Does the prospex logo add anything? I prefer it without.

I like the cream and silver dial and look forward to my AD getting one in so I can give it a try.

I think Seiko (Including GS) is going to start making a push to increase pricing across the board. Possibly to gain "respect." There's a psychology to it. I think it will work for GS, but backfire for Seiko.

I have two mini Turtles (SRPC35J1 AND SRPC41K1) with cyclops. At first I hated these date magnifiers but now I don’t notice them on a day-to-day basis. But I definitely prefer my Alpinist SARB017 sans cyclops.

They look great and I agree, the last one is my favorite. I love the starburst dial.

didn't expect them to add a cyclops on it. I also got my hands on a blue alpinist (thankfully from an AD) and it's a great little piece. I just wish it came with a brown strap rather than the black.

I'm a fan of not limiting models though. I really feel like seiko did the blue alpinist a disservice by making it limited.

FWIW, looks like the date magnifier has a history with Alpinist watches....

Hard to say. I reckon it’s at least an inky black. I find it more interesting than the Rolex Explorer.

Not sure I can throw down nearly $800 for one. At that price, I'd consider making the jump to Grand Seiko.

Was about to post this.

The cyclops made it more mid-life eye friendly. Now even more legible.

Now, what to choose...

It's just all about health, happiness & family. The rest are just necessary inconvenience we have to deal with.

It may go for less on third party sellers

Like Amazon, especially after the initial hub bub subsides.

I own the Blue alpinist SPB089, it definitely wears smaller than 39.5mm, probably due to the wide and angled bezels. Regardless, it's one of my favorite watches, delivers well more than it's purchase price, I highly recommend it. Cheers.
