Wearing my Rolex in Mexico

Never any issues in 30 years. As the saying goes, it’s not Disney Land out there, so just be aware of your surroundings, just like any place else these days.
Edit: been here two weeks and as usual only smiling happy people who go out of their way to make us feel welcome.

You’ll get a wide variety of replies here with everything from don’t wear it to wear it.

Personally, if I’m worried about what watch I’m wearing for fear of getting robbed, it’s probably a place I won’t take my wife and kids, therefore I’m not likely to visit.

Los Cabos is the best. I surfed at Zippers, if anyone knows that break, a couple months back with DSSD. Of course on heavy duty zulu for comfort and stealth. No issues with watch but a tricky wave with lots of locals who rip it.

I thought I was the only one who understood this.

I have NEVER been to a place where I feared for my safety or the safety of my family. If such a place existed, I simply wouldn't go there...a watch is completely irrelevant in the discussion.

That brings the total to 4 cents

Agreed. Vancouver and Toronto has areas I would not wear a Rolex after 10:00pm. It’s all about awareness when traveling.

Be wise my friends. Don’t put a steak in a bears face and then act all surprised when he eats it.

All of this resonates with me. Going to New Orleans on a work trip and we certainly will be out and about on Bourbon st. I am not taking any of my watches.

I have been to New Orleans more times than I can remember, inclusive of numerous times right after Wilma for my job and never, ever, have I felt threatened on Bourbon Street.
You will see more police every five feet you walk than anywhere else on Earth.

Make sure you get to the suburb Metairie and visit Drago’s for the best oysters you’ll ever eat.
Mother’s is a must as well for lunch.

Quite often work dictates travel schedules for many people. This may sometimes include the above type of place.

I went to Tulane and know a bit about NO. I wouldn’t wear anything to set yourself apart. It’s a very dangerous city.

Yes a ‘safe to wear in Mexico’ thread. Although searching the site I can not find another one. Although I am sure there must be a few. Generally around here it is - Is it safe to wear my Rolex in Mexico - and my answer is Yes! No need for you to read or post if the subject matter aggravates you to the point where you feel the need to insult another member.

I survived.
This multiple city/country fear mongering is out of control on TRF.

I agree. I read one earlier today that was as you describe. That is why I posted a counterpoint, wearing mine today and 30 years of no issues in Mexico.

That’s probably because most people commenting these posts on TRF are from the same country, are easily identifiable when travelling abroad and are regularly fed up stupid news by their local channel variance of FOX.

I was hiring a guy from the UK and gave him a choice of two teams to join, one in Seattle, one in San Francisco bay area. He said SF, because "everyone in Seattle owns a gun"! Funny how we view other countries, isn't it?!

And yes, despite "all those guns" I can assure you it's safe to wear a Rolex in Seattle -- I've done it many times.

The most Rolex watches I have ever seen in the wild was at the Los Cabos international airport. There isn’t even a close second.

Had no idea people carried guns here in Seattle...go figure...I wear my expII as a daily here in downtown Seattle...never an issue...in fact majority of the people have no idea what I’m wearing so it’s irrelevant...

Is your watch insured? If so, then even if something does happen you can get it replaced.

But anecdotally, my colleague transferred to Mexico City and she said her Husband got his Rolex stolen at gunpoint in the middle of the day while they were there. Not to say this is a common occurrence but I'm sure there is a chance that something happens esp if its a recognizable model.
