The previous generation of the Daytona bezel was only stainless steel or PM, no aluminum, you have to go way back in the catalogue to find aluminum.

So Rolex is definitely open to making a stainless steel bezel into ceramic. Whether they will do that on the explorer II remains to be seen.

I predict they won't, but I've been wrong before! Would love to see it, though.

An advantage the explorer II bezel has is that it's tough and relatively cheap to replace. I got a quote to replace and it was far less than I expected, I forget the exact number though, but quite cheap.

Perhaps for an explorers watch that's expected to get banged around, a cheap, tough SS bezel is more attractive.

I wonder if we on this forum have ever kept track of whose prediction (wild guess) have come true?

Jan 1 price increase hint that they will upgrade the movement of Exp and OP series to the 32xx series since they didn't increase them a dime. They will increase the price with the new movement.

AirKing and Milgauss may see a short hiatus since they are the slow sellers until Rolex updates them both. AirKing is an odd model, in between Milgauss and Exp, so I guess they will come up with a completely new design for that one, maybe more fliegerish style other than car gauge.

Sub may not see the movement upgrade this year, since they sell like hot cakes, and they had a a large price increase already. It doesn't make sense to increase the price twice in a year. I think the new movement will make its way to PM and maybe TT this year with slimmer but not so slim lugs, just like in GMT. And then next year the movement will be updated in SS.

EXP II is due an update, but I don't think we will see it this year, I assume they will come up with 2 new version, 40mm SS bezel and 42mm Ceramic bezel, to not to canibalize GMT but also allow over 7.5" wrist people to enjoy Ceramic bezel gmt functionality.

GMT II may see Coke Bezel, and all black, but both will be on jubilee, again not to canibalize submariner sales.

We won't know what is new until the day before Basel and Rolex Passion Report tells us.

Yup,

I nailed the 126710BLNR after seeing the 126710BLRO the year before. I saw the new BLNR coming and even said I would be buying one if it gets released for Baselworld 2019.

Biggest rumour that keeps popping up everywhere is an updated Submariner.
Frankly not very much interested anymore in the models and Rolex itself. I am bummed by the price increases and availability policies.
Don't think I'm ever buying one again kind of disappointed.

Basel 2020

My thoughts:
- Root Beer models introduced on jubilee; oyster models discontinued
- DJ36 "turn-o-graph" reintroduced to play off of the heightened demand for "sport" models
- Milgauss updated to reflect older models with rotating bezel (same rationale as above point)
- Sub updated with new movement and more tapered lugs
- Air King dial updated to no longer include 3-5-9 with a true "B" dial
- WG "Coke" GMT on oyster

Not so much a prediction as a wish..... I would love to see the Datejust 41 two tone yellow gold on a jubilee bracelet with fluted bezel with a blue dial. Rolex used to do this combination back in the day. Someone on here once posted a picture of this older version in an awesome photo with it on his wrist driving an older antique-like car. The yellow gold, steel and blue dial looked so good!!!!

Next logical deduction is the CHNR on jubilee.

I predict it will be nothing to write home about.

Dials, bracelets maybe a Coke WG GMT...(would be better in Platinum)...why put a new movement in the Submariner? There’s nothing wrong with the current one. I could see more RG on Professionals. And probably something else to hype up that just doesn’t work out...enter the WG YM....

How about just skip the new releases and increase production by 15%

A ceramic bezel is scratch proof not impact proof , I mashed my Pepsi Bezel a couple of months after getting it so I have a little bit of experience of this.
The Explorer was designed for mountains and rocks ect so a slight bump and the bezel is broken.
That being said I expect that its ben a few decades since any serious mountaineer has ever used one

Now they would more than likely use a G Shock or a Garmin.

I see a GMT II Coke in White gold with a jubilee bracelet. This will have zero or no effect on the rest of the GMT range and will eventually make way (3-4 years later) for a steel Coke with oyster.

126711 CHNR Rootbeer: with Jubilee

I see that the Baselworld 2020 predictions are starting to build momentum.

One of the suggestions that I have read several times is that the 126711 CHNR may be released on a Jubilee, with the Oyster being discontinued? If this was to happen, would the grey price for the Oyster version drop back to nearer current MSRP? Contemplating purchasing grey if close to MSRP, (been on a “list” for 8 months); and in the minority, but actually prefer the Oyster on the CHNR to mocked up photos with Jubilee bracelet.

Last edited by Oaker1; 16 January 2020 at 05:36 AM.. Reason: Apologies all, this was supposed to be a new thread.

I’ve been wrong many times about a lot of things, but I do not understand why people think the Submariner line will get more tapered lugs any time in the foreseeable future. New movement I get, case re-design for 2020 ... no.

I tho k people believe that because the Datejust and the GMT received more tapered lugs recently

Wonder if I think a release like this would make the 214270 (224270?) easier to obtain overall if there were suddenly twice as many being delivered based on twice as many dial choices? Or probably more likely would draw attention to how good the black dialed version already is and suddenly there will be all kinds of threads about Explorer wait lists at ADs and premiums at greys for both colours.
