I was driving into work this morning and wondering what all people get into with a Rolex strapped to their wrist? Any generic activities not necessarily death defying.

From modest beginnings of climbing Everest, to the Mariana Trench to... safety deposit box queens?

Let’s be honest these items have become hella expensive. But we buy them to wear them, and make memories. A lot of people talk about passing the watches on to their kids. Let’s give the watch an identity, a purpose, an adventure and a story to tell. 25 years from now I don’t think any of our children will care how we met our margins and had a great Q4 of 2019

Personally. I wear it and enjoy it but I am also cautious. If I’m working on my motorcycle or car, remodeling the house or other high risk areas of damage that can easily be avoided. I wear a gshock.

For me it’s been: offshore fishing, snowboarding, hiking, kayaking, skydiving and motorcycle riding

What have you done? What are you into?

Patek and Rolex going skiing when my boys when they were were young. Sitting on the chair lift pushing back my glove checking the time when they asked "hey dad how much more can we ski ?".

Seriously though, I think wearing expensive items to activities where they risk of damage is high is stupid.

Wearing an expensive watch has to be only for special occasions, I mean you mark such memories with something special...I won't support risking ruining a watch for some leisure activity where the chances of a scratch is high....

i have taken mine skiing many times, every dive since i have owned it, even had on mountain and road bikes. purchased to wear/use. if it takes a beaten so be it.

Suunto Core Black or Breitling Emergency for all/any extreme sports activity. Offshore fishing, dune bashing in desert, ATVs, hiking, scuba diving (Sub and computer). Walking next to my wife and hitting her jewelry/diamond ring with my watch became also an extreme activity...

I plan on purchasing a Rolex next year when I am done saving up for the DD 36, but the most extreme thing I could be doing while wearing it would be working at my desk at the office. Wouldn’t wear it in the ocean or pool.

I remember once wearing a YG DD to the Patek salon at Tiffany's when I was 20 wasn't a fun experience. I was looking to buy a moon phase nautilus in white dial back then. Needless to say I didnt buy it

DD40 - Skiing, swimming, rock climbing, hang gliding.
Sky Dweller - Safari, house building in Africa, photography in Afghanistan.
Pepsi - Diving, beach, rock climbing, hiking, golfing.
SD43 - Deep diving, car repairs, digging water wells.

Just examples. I use a watch to wear and enjoy. Not as an “investment” or for resale. Care not about getting scratches. When they go in for service I’m happy to get the dreaded “polish”.

I have a watch to tell time, it just so happens that it’s a Rolex and I enjoy looking at it. I am not going to put it on a shelf or in a vault to keep scratches off of it. Life is too short for that. Worst case scenario you can always get it serviced or get another one.( well...eventually with waitlists and all haha )

I might be relatively new to the forum, but I’ve been around the Rolex world for a while. Some of these responses are surprising.

They might be expensive, but they were meant to be worn. I haven’t done a lot of adventuring in particular lately as my kids are pretty little now and take up most of my time, but I use to wear mine in all kinds of adventures. God forbid we scratch them....more memories, and nothing that can’t be fixed if desired. Just be cautious if it’s that big of a concern. Make memories with them throughout life, not just special occasions. Suited for the desk or adventures.

Buying an expensive watch and NOT wearing it is nuts, in my opinion! That's why I got Rolex and not some of the other more "Fragile" brands. I used to go thru a (cheap $100) watch a year, because I'm so hard on them -- mostly scratching the crystals so much that I couldn't see thru it, or getting them wet. My Rolexes are bullet proof. Only things I DON'T wear it doing is painting and working on my motorcycle (there are limits!). But other than that (and sleeping) it doesn't leave my wrist!

My DJ has seen so much, from tuxedo evenings to skiing in below 30C temperatures, diving in the Atlantic, day long hikes in 40C

Tbh that’s why I buy Rolex in the first place, they’re made to be worn and reliable
