The sky (dweller) is the limit

The „new 5711„ imho
1) sport steel watch
2) robust , Rolex quality, 5 years guarantee
3) best price /value ratio of any Rolex model- a bargain compared to other similar brands
4) most innovativ year calendar
5) most complicated Rolex ever
6) blue dial rarer than a white steel Daytona
7) dressy and sporty

Unfortunately the waiting time has increased. Where I live waiting lists for the blue are closed.
Fingers crossed you get yours soon. Unbelievable watch. You will love it!

Not fussed on the sky dweller but I'd go for a black or blue dial.

My birthday is coming up in a few weeks and my AD told me he will do his best. I won’t be holding my breathe on it but it would definitely be terrific.

I wanted blue but settled for black. No regrets and have been enjoying the watch since July! I buy to keep and this watch has a special meaning to me. If it does become the next 5711, then it’s all upside! Otherwise, still a wonderful watch.

I’m on the list. This and the 116500 white remain unobtainable still but I know my AD is working on it.

Cheers

If I didn't already have two blue dial Rolex watches and another with a particularly nice and striking blue crystal/dial combination from another maker, the blue SS Sky Dweller would have been an obvious, if difficult addition.

My preference was for the black. As well as being a better fit in my collection for diversity, Rolex use a subtle and rather clever sunburst effect on the black dial of the Sky Dweller which appeals to me. TBH any colour would do. I think they all look beautiful.

The blue and white SS dials do have an advantage over the black which became apparent to me when I got mine. Unlike the black, the blue and white dials have some contrast between the dial and reference time wheel. It's subtle but it makes a difference for the good to my eyes. The black face is all black. The GMT wheel is easy to read but not as easy as its siblings.

My AD's SS Sky Dweller allocation for 2019 was 1 black, 1 white and two blue. So as far as my neck of the woods is concerned, the blue SS Sky dweller is actually twice as common as the black and white! But it's all relative.

I’m glad it’s not 40mm as if it was I would be wanting one. Love the idea of the sky dweller and the complication is really well implemented but the watch is absolutely massive. Tried on a TT and it’s way too big for me.

Don't feel like you settled Phooi. The Skyd in black is the most striking in person for me. Their all beauties but black just jumps out and has that slight sunburst effect as well.

I guess “settled” might not be exactly correct. My first choice was blue followed by black. Honestly, I had never seen either in person to make a true value judgment.

When I was chatting with the AD, I was told there was no chance of ever getting a blue given my purchase history. She did say that I had a chance to get black. Given my choices, I had to “settle” for my 2nd choice.

After receiving the watch, I have absolutely no regrets owning the black. I find it dramatic and subtle with a real wrist presence. I love how the dial can look pure black, sunburst or even gray depending on the light. It is probably my favorite watch in my small collection.

Have sunburst dials been around forever or are they more of a modern trend?

Yep it get in on blue being way hot on many pieces, we all know that especially in the last year or so. My AD/mgr. had both in stock last fall and chose the black sky for his birthday, lucky dog.. It's a stunner....I love blue but on watches I still prefer black. I recently had the choice on my new VCO and same thing blues the no.1 hot choice. I knew I had to pick black, the polished wg hands and markers just seem to jump off the dial. It's all good, Enjoy

This is my next purchase. I really want one after seeing it in person (in black) however, I am more of a white dial fan.

Blue looks more appealing in pictures but given that it is such a large watch black would give it a more conservative look when wearing in multiple situations IMO

I have never seen the black in person, but I love my blue one, it is my favorite colour in general. However I have to say that the white dial grows on me . Certainly looks fresh in the summer.
I am still amazed what a „bargain“ this watch is compared to similar manufactures. This could easily go for 20k list price.

Settled ?

Black will be the long term classic dial, the blue fad will run its course.

Some of the old 16753/16713 GMT “Rootbeer” have chocolate sunburst dial.

Good luck. My birthday was in December, told my AD I’d decided on the blue dial in October. Still waiting. They did get a white dial in and gave me chance to buy, but decided to hold out for the blue.

I had an opportunity to buy the white dial model some time ago. The watch was simply too massive for me. I have a 7" wrist and the watch felt like a snuff can on my wrist.

It it was the size of my GMT, I would be seeking one.

It’s about as opposite to a 5711 as you can get

Heckuva watch though, I agree
