Icon9 DDII or DD40

I’m having trouble deciding if wether I Should get a DDII or a DD40. I’m 6’5 and have a pretty big wrist. I really like the size of the case for the 41mm but I know the mechanism inside the watch is improved for the 40mm. I’ve never tried on a 41mm so I’m not sure on what to get.

It's best to try them both if you can. The general consensus seems to be that the DD40 has the better proportions and just seems to be the better watch? If you're looking for something big to match your wrist, you can try the Skydweller!

You’re right I’d have to try both of them on, I already have a skydweller in my collection but it’s a yellow gold two-tone. I have a submariner hulk and a Date just 2 41mm that I’m trying to get rid of but I’m not sure how to sell it. Never traded or sold a watch before.

The mechanism has not improved really.

DD2 is a rare bird with its short run. I like them

I liked the 42mm size. If/when I get to the point I can acquire one, I will have to take a very hard look at the DDII versus the 40

If I was you I'd go try on the DD2. The DD40 may wear small on you as it only really is 39mm.

If you can live with the disproportionate bezel on the DD2 then go for that one. These have gone up in price due to their very short production run.

You mean when you do get to that point! The price went up on the DDII in the last few months. Now that I’m interested in one they’re unfortunately more expensive

I don’t remember them being this high a couple of months ago. I’m honestly in a pickle because each one has a flaw on the size. It’s going to be a tough one, other than that the 40 is also going to run me about 39k at my local AD. I’m not sure if I should look for one in the gray market.

Welcome to the forum.

Both are fantastic references ... it really cones down to whether you want the extra umph of the DD2

I had the opportunity to buy both. I did not like the way the bezel looked on the DDII. The DD 40 though looked fantastic and that was the one I went with.

I just traded two DD II's. A platinum and a YG. Have had some version of the DD II in the collection off and on for about ten years. A really cool watch but with some serious flaws. The biggest one is the lack of adjustment in the bracelet other than adding or removing links. This results in a bracelet that can either be just right or just slightly off either way. The other issue I have with the DD II is that after discontinuing the watch Rolex stepped up the game with the DD40. Movement and dial options are very strong and modern. I am also a larger person at 6'6" and 255 pounds and a wrist of 7.5-7.75 depending on the weather. And that brings me back to the bracelet and a lack of adjustment on the fly. I am now in the Sky-Dweller camp and have a YG and two SS versions. I would look to a full PM Sky-Dweller as you get the size and Easy Link bracelet system. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Easy decision for me...though I'm also not 6'5", but rather 5'6"

As with any watch purchase, the key is trying both of them on. The DD II was just too chunky and had that big bling look to it. That's my personal opinion of course, so no offense to those who own it.

The proportions on the DD40 are just perfect and the dial options trump those on the DD II as well. The deconstructed Romans are beautiful.

Try them both on, and as you know the DD40 has the newer movement and ceramic sleeves within the bracelet.

to me the proportion of DD2/DJ2 looks hideous, value potential in the future will be a different story

Everyone is trying to hit me over the head with the price on the DD40. Should I wait to see if they’ll go down in a couple of months? Or should I just buy now before they go up?

The modern DD40 bracelet has no on the fly adjustments either, just add or subtract links.

I don't think the price at Boutique/AD will go up again this year. If you buy it from ADs, you should ask for some discount, if they don't, just go grey.

Lately I notice that DD 40 rose gold with olive dial price has gone up a bit, this one seems to be popular, others can be a bit cheaper.
