Buy a new watch or just add a rubber strap?
Have been kicking the idea of picking up an Omega Aqua Terra on rubber strap for beach/pool activities. I’ve never owned an Omega so I thought it might be something to try. Every time I try to get serious about finding a configuration I might like, I come back to the idea of just adding a Rubber B to my GMT LN and calling it a day.
My other watches are a 16618 and an AP 26331 ST panda. I’d like to add a DD40 on my 40th bday next year. What would yo do? Buy the Omega or change the strap on the GMT? |

Buy the rubber band for the GMT to see if it makes you decide against the Omega (nothing against the brand, have a few!) as would be way less expensive; if the desire continues then look for a pre-loved one / don’t pay retail

Try the Rubber B. Great quality and will likely be the change you're after

Considering how (relatively) inexpensive a good rubber strap for your GMT is, why not get that and see if you like it? Even if you don't like it enough to leave on the GMT full-time, it'll probably still be fun to bring out every now and then. And if it doesn't scratch the itch enough, then get the AT.
I personally am pretty taken with the new Seamaster Pros on rubber. I assume you want something a little less sporty than that, but check them out as well if you haven't already. |

Try the strap first. If it doesn't scratch the itch, you're only in it $250 ish. I have one for my polar and it changes the look and wearing experience quite a bit. I like the change, at times.

I did this with my platinum YM and you might be surprised. It really is like getting a new watch. I’ve since moved on but am about to buy another rubber b strap for my ‘new’ 2006 YM. Omega makes a superlative watch, but I’d try the $200 rubber b first.

When I read the title of the thread, I was certain my response would be, “Buy a watch with a dedicated rubber strap.”
Now that I see you’re considering an Aqua Terra, I change my vote. I bought an Aqua Terra a few months ago thinking I wanted to try something different. It did not take. I couldn’t wait to get rid of it. Personal preference plays a major role here of course, but there were enough small annoyances that I just couldn’t get myself to like it. It also looked great in pics online but was very underwhelming in person. Having owned an Aqua Terra, my vote would be, keep the Rolex as-is and pick up one of Sinn’s offerings on rubber. Cheaper than even a used Aqua Terra. Edit: So I guess my response came full circle. Buy a watch with a dedicated rubber strap, but my personal preference would not be for the Aqua Terra. Make sure you see it in person and like it as much as pics. Also, make sure you take a minute to unscrew the crown, wind it and set the time. Mine was more difficult to wind than I cared for (small crown that didn’t pop out far enough), and the hands had a decent amount of slack in them. |

Put the rubber B strap on. Looks good. But kind of narrowish. Will give it some time. Thanks all.

Gave it a shot for a couple weeks. It was ok. Band kind of narrow looking. I think it takes away from the watch. Oyster going back on tonight.
I do like the new AP 44s. That has a strap |

Definitely the rubber strap if you don’t like it you can at least reevaluate the situation

I hate swapping straps around, and am never satisfied when I do it. If it were me, I’d find an AT I like. Or a PO.

Why an AT? Seems like a job for a Seamaster 300M on rubber.

Rubber B added and it changed the entire look of my watch. I use my original clasp as well.
