Icon20 Anyone planning to try local AD tomorrow ?

I’ve got an AD within walking distance of my office. Might give it a try tomorrow just for fun. My buddy does have a relationship built with this AD he is meeting me there. Do you guys think this is a total waste of my time?

Worse that could happen is they add you to the waiting list of whatever you’re interested in.

I've been camping out at mine for a week and a half now- I'll be the 45th person through that door tomorrow afternoon, shortly before they close...once the VIPs all get their turns. Can't wait to see a black sub with a black bezel in the flesh...it's been illusive for going on 70 years, so the anticipation is unreal!

I tried today in Tokyo, they said they don't expect any stock for 1 month and they aren't doing any waiting lists for anything.

I've been trying to get hold of one of my preferred Rolex watches for the last 4 months here and was hoping that this new product launch would at least make it so I don't have to keep going into stores.

I went to my AD and was told that Rolex is not allowing for wait list. So I had to ask if they would let me know if the new Kermit is available..Mind you, I had bought 5 Rolex watches from this AD. The sales rep just said that I may have to wait longer because Rolex would prefer to sell to the new buyer instead of the collector in order to expand their fan base and be fair to others who is buying their first Rolex.

WTH? Does it mean a new buyer have a better chance at getting a new sports model than a repeat loyal customer? I just don't get the reasoning for this.

I actually like that idea. There is an element of fairness and let’s the people with lesser means get a chance

I'm going to call and see if they have the OP41s I got my eye on. I imagine a Kermit will be almost impossible to come by but you never know

That's disappointing. In my opinion everyone should have an equal opportunity to get the watch they want. The no waiting lists is what really gets me as I feel like it's a waste of time to keep calling or going in stores, the staff must be sick of seeing me now.

Unfortunately I don't believe in such element of fairness.I get the feeling that if I make a purchase of a PM piece, I would be offered the Kermit for sure. This is the AD playing games in order to sell something that is harder to sell.

If Rolex is really able to do this, they have my respect. Wouldn't it be nice if more people are able to enjoy this "hobby"? Watches are meant to be worn. Too many end up as part of "collections" and sit unused.

You might feel that way, sure, but that's also the way through which many greys suck up stock, keeping the everday Rolex enthusiast from being able to purchase or even see SS pieces in store.

Great point. Too many nice models end up just being photographed and not worn.

Can't help but think about the thread about thanking your AD.. there will always be someone bigger and better in their eyes - I wouldn't bother, if you get the watch pay for it with a smile, they're only doing their job of getting rid of the watch.

Good luck to everyone reaching out!
