So I'm not going to post a bunch of pictures, they are all out there and with comparisons to the 114060 side by side. I'm just going to give you my day 1 thoughts on what may be in my mind the perfect sub to date (no pun intended)
Possibly the best proportion of any sub I've ever had - let me go down the line. 5513, 1680, 5 digits date and no date, Rail Dial Seadweller, 114060, 116610 and a couple of 2 tones. These are all beauties that have come and gone through the years of collecting and learning. So in a nut shell for me, this new 124060 takes on a wearability of a slimmed down 114060 and spreads out over my 7 and 5/8 wrist more like my EXP II 42mm watch. I just can't say enough about the comfort ( for me anyway ) The proportions look like a modern nod to a classic 5513. The differences are subtle. Obviously from a spectator perspective no one would be able to visually tell the difference between the 114060 and this new model, the difference is clearly for the wearer. So without going on and on - if the question in your mind is "why should I get this model, is it really different than the previous?" The answer is yes it is in spades. Now - if you already own a 114060 and are happy with it, do you need to sell your soul for this one right now? - Maybe not. For me, I currently did not have a 6 digit sub in the collection and with these minor case adjustments it really comes through for me in every way. Cheers! |

Congrats Brian! Completely agree with your take. The slight tweaks to the proportions make a noticeable impact on the wrist. Impressive.

Congrats, Brian, and thanks for sharing your thoughts. Really valuable insights, given your experience with Rolex divers.

An awesome write up, Brian. I love hearing your thoughts since you have owned a lot of divers and actually used them while doing it. I am impressed to hear that the 41mm wears the best out of all the others. It is a mighty fine looking watch and huge congratulations on getting it.
Wear it in the best of health! ![]() |

Never owned a Submariner, to be honest I wasn't a fan of the outgoing variant it seemed a bit of a brick and I wasn't prepared to spend a good chunk of money on older versions which may or may not have been 'original'.
When the new range was launched I was excited as the watch looked slimmer, it seemed to have gone on a diet and looked better for it. A conversation with my SA at the dealers and three weeks later I had one. And I have to be honest it is such a wonderfully comfortable watch I just don't want to take it off. I love the dial without the date and associated cyclops the watch looks perfect, I think Rolex have done a brilliant job. However, I do have one complaint Mr Rolex, make this watch with different colours, why should the date version have all the fun. Mine says hello.
