PRE-OWNED ROLEX
DATE CIRCA 1971 STAINLESS STEEL AUTOMATIC Reference#: 1500, 36 mm diameter, Stainless Steel $4000.00 How does that sound to those with experience? Tough world to navigate. Thank you, all. |

I think it might be 34mm, not 36mm.

It's listed at 36mm
That's why I thought it was interesting. Unless it's not the truth.
Thanks for responding! |

I'm old. It's my birth year, which is another reason I thought it was sorta cool.

These mosaic dials are beautiful. Attached clearer pictures so others can share their views ;)

1971? Heck, that's not old; 1942 is old.
![]() The photos, such as they are, look nice, but buy the seller. IOW, always buy from a trusted seller.

Thanks. These are as clear as I can get the photos, unfortunately. Which is my fault, not theirs.

You'll want to know if the sale includes original box and papers, when it was last serviced, and by whom. The price looks fair if it's in good condition.

Thanks. It's from Torneau. I'll check about the box and papers but I highly doubt it.
Thanks again. |

Tourneau is a respected seller, so there shouldn't be any issue there. Checking Ref 1500 prices online, $4,000 is on the high side; prices seem to be averaging around $3,000 - $3,500.

Great, thank you. I'm really into the mosaic dials and wasn't sure how common they were. Would;d that add to the price or not really? Thanks again for answering. Really cool support world here.

And I've had a hard time finding watches like this in 36mm. It's like they almost all seem like 34mm.

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you on the rarity or value of the dial. It is a very handsome daily wearer all around timepiece.

Thank you!
I feel like I've been looking for so long. I hear about so many bad experiences, even with what would seem like reputable dealers like Torneau. I have been learning a lot here. Thanks again. |

The Oyster Perpetual line might be worth looking at... brand new at AD for another $1,500.

Okay, thanks for the advice.
Is there any dealer of vintage Rolexes that has an impeccable reputation? Thanks again. |

Dan, I think the Ref 1500 is an Oyster Perpetual "Date"; it isn't a Datejust. Dowling says they are smaller than a Datejust and more suitable for smaller wrists.
Millenary Watches has a web page "Rolex 1500 Oyster Date: A Complete Guide" that says the case is 34mm. https://millenarywatches.com/rolex-1500/ Quote:

Solid seller. If it’s exactly what you want, get it. It’s not a good deal, and definitely not a bad deal if you want exactly that watch. Like they said above, it’s 34mm. Good luck.
