Yeah all those Rolex watches sitting and collecting dust in the display cases. Their days are numbered for sure.

Apple Watch and Rolex are not even in the same market. I’d be willing to bet that 95% of Apple Watch sales are to people who either can’t afford a Rolex or have no interest in watches

A Rolex/AP/Patek/Omega is a completely different product from an Apple Watch. I’d be shocked if any owners of high-end Swiss mechanical watches genuinely replace them with an Apple Watch.
Swiss mechanical watches are bought as career milestone gifts, or heirlooms, or jewelry. No one buys an Apple Watch for those reasons. |

Oh no. Well, I guess I should dump all my watches and get an Apple watch.
Thanks for the heads up, OP. |

I can see Apple Watch affecting Cartier or other walk-in purchased premium brands of similar case shape. People who want a Rolex are crazy-eyed and will stop at no premium to get what they want.

I don't buy it; they're completely different markets.

It's mostly killing the sub-1000$ pieces, all your Fossil or fashion watches. Fossil group is largely toast at this point.

Apple watches are disposable consumer products which will end up in landfill eventually - Rolex watches are beautiful pieces of craftsmanship to keep for generations. No contest!

I enjoy my Apple Watch for what it is... a gimmicky fitness accompaniment. Totally understand why they’re so popular, but they’ll never replace the feeling of owning a true piece.
I actually feel that Apple Watch may be helping the younger generation get “into” watches. |

Clickbait nonsense for sure.
On a related note, I'm quite into tech but I have never understood smart watches in that market. I understand fitness type watches and I use a Garmin one for running, but just an all day smart watch which bothers you with notifications in a slightly different part of your body is useless in my mind. Apple watches aren't very good at the activity tracking and seem to be more of a lifestyle product without much substance. Plus you have to charge the damn thing pretty much every day. |

I think the rise of the Apple Watch is part of what is fueling the surge for Rolex and other luxury watches currently. |

I've mused about if in a future world we go into Matrix or Ready Player One virtual worlds, would a digitized NFT Rolex still be desirable...and I think the answer is probably still yes.

As a technophobe, I think Apple watches are ugly and I'd probably never figure out how to use it. I'm sure metrosexuals love them.
