DD on Rolex 1803

Hey guys,

Hoping for some feed back. This 1803 is for sale and comes with papers. The watch is being offered around 14k after tax. What is a good price to offer of is 14k fair?

I’ve done the DD I could but hoping there’s a house expert that can shine some light.

Bracelet seems like it’s for a small wrist.
Case looks beat up. But may be better in person.
Dial is original (supposedly)
Original paper work

DD on Rolex 1803

All depends on price. I presume that is usd ? The hands have been incorrectly replaced. The rest looks original. A bit beat up as you say.

It’s a pass for me at that price point.

I’d offer half of that.

If you buy it will you send it out to tighten the bracelet and service the movement and clean up the case?
(Basically send it to Roliworks)
If all of that will happen then factor it into your overall price you are willing to pay and make an offer accordingly.

It's very expensive to fix a gold jubilee.

DD has to be on a President bracelet or Croc strap for me. The Jubilee feels odd.

As per David above, the hands aren't correct for that Buckley dial - they should be black. It'll be tough to find the correct hands and matching extra links if the bracelet is too short. Rolex will probably sell you new links, but they'll be mismatched with the worn links on the bracelet.

The price of 14 k obviously has a margin for negotiation built into it. They should come down significantly if you have your heart set on it.

For me it's a money/time sink. If you have a 14 k budget, you can quite easily find something much nicer.

Also consider a white gold 1803 - these are shooting up in value but are still within that budget on a leather strap - get in while you can.

Good luck with it.

Just as a reference, quoting from a well-known HK-based restorer in 2017, USD1350 plus I needed two links installed at USD250 per, plus shipping, plus Paypal's cut, came to 2Kish all in. But the result was beautiful, bracelet looks new now.

Vintage Rolex, even if you're just playing around the edges buying watches to wear personally for your own satisfaction...it's not cheap.

Thanks for that insight. I’ll pass on this watch
