Thanks again for the welcome and the kind responses. You know, I was absolutely certain that my purchase was a one-and-done affair, but I do find myself coming back and admiring all of the wonderful watches that you guys have. I fear that I may have been bitten. How much is the antidote?

OK, should I be worried or not.....
if I search for 1957 Rolexes, I never see one exactly like mine. They all have Perpetual, Precision, Datejust, etc, on the dial. Mine just has Oyster and nothing else. Shouldn't I be able to find one exactly like mine?

Is your watch an automatic or manual wind only? Is it a dress watch without a screw down crown perhaps? Pics would seriously aid in our abilities to help you.

As noted earlier in this thread, your watch has a replacement dial and hands if the case is from 1950s. There was a time (60s-70s?) when automatic Rolex watches were imported into the USA with only 17-jewel movements to save on import duty, and they had 'blank' dials like yours.

I missed being able to see the original post of the sale, but did the seller mention anything about the dial and hands being replaced? If not, and birth-year aside, I’d be pissed.

This is what it’s all about. A beautiful, vintage, accurate, every-day watch. |
