Hello from rainy Washington...

Hello folks -

Just a quick intro...

Most of my collecting has been in cars, but I've always had a fascination for clocks and watches (to my wife's never ending dismay....our house in interesting every hour, on the hour).

I've always worn a wrist watch, but never anything terribly expensive - historically I've been hard on watches, but whether my plastic casio when I was 6 years old, to my array of cheap but interesting-looking finds, I've never been without a timepiece on my wrist. When I was around 12, I found a vintage looking watch that you had to wind-up - I loved it, and from that point forward it was analogue for me - none of this battery stuff. When the other kids had mini-calculators on their watches (or a game of Tetris) I had my old wind-up, second hand ticking around.....and losing about an hour every 8.

I've no idea what happened to that old watch. I suppose at some point the fact that it didn't really do a great job of...you know...keeping time....may have played a role in its mysterious disappearance, and may also explain why it was laying on the ground next to the dumpster.....where I found it. I've never forgotten it though, and while far from a Rolex, I'd like to find something similar, but with a more "Rolex" ability to keep time.

So, that's my quest - Find myself a Rolex that reminds me of the watch I had, while keeping time like the watch it never was.

As a question - how does one become a pledge member so that I might post my "want to buy" and or respond to watches for sale?

Thanks,
Allan.

No kidding - welcome to the antarctic.

Also, shifting gears- is you avatar picture from Heinlein's "Stranger in a strange land"?
