Lovely Scents/Foul Smells: What Are Your Personal Likes & Dislikes?
A scent is very personal, and often associated with feelings and memories.
For example, a former love may have worn a particular cologne, and when you smell it today, it evokes fond memories of your relationship. Perhaps the smell of certain foods cooking takes you back to your childhood, and envelopes you with a sense of feeling cared for and secure. Certainly not all smells generate positive feeling and reactions. For instance, when I enter the medical building where my dentist's office is located, and I catch a whiff ofl those "dental smells," I experience trepidation since I remember two particularly unpleasant root canals. Conversely, the scent of vanilla lifts my spirits automatically. It is no accident that my favorite cologne contains almost all vanilla notes. Let's hear from you: What are your personal likes and/or dislikes? Optional: Please feel free to also share whatever feelings or memories you associate with these scents. |

I love the smell of gasoline, cigarettes, and those chemicals under the kitchen sink. Hate the slel of coins. Well, those are the quirky ones.

I love the smell of jet fuel and the exhaust of certain diesel engines . . . All since I was a kid. Weird.

I don't like rose-scented perfumes, sachets, soap, or anything that smells like a rose but isn't one. Blecch. Real roses smell just fine.
I love the smell of the old farmhouses our neighbors lived in when I was a kid - and they were old farmers, of course - ancient people who still canned their own vegetables and held threshing events after the wheat harvest. Their homes smelled like warm gas stoves, dampness and mustiness from the root cellars, and cooking smells of bread or beans with ham or garden vegetables. |

x2 We're about the same age...I remember when the Madonna Like a Prayer album came out and the sleeve was impregnated with that crap...all the madonna fans at school when to the nearest occult/wicca goth shops and bought a load of it before dousing their madonna denim jackets in it....bleurghhhh!

I like the smell of newly opened action figures....I recently bought W some soldier toys and when I opened the box it took me back about 20 years.
I also like the smell of books...that kind of slightly foisty pulped wood paper smell. Smells I don't like...frying onions...urgh! J |

I hate the smell of popcorn, vanilla, cigarettes/cigars, and potpourri. Oh, and also anything that tries to smell like chocolate. It always smells absolutely terrible.
I looove the smell of cinnamon/apple combination, just cinnamon, fresh cut grass, horses, fresh baked cookies or pies, the blossoming trees outside my house (it smells like Spring!), hay, gasoline, and oranges. I also like the smell of marijuana oddly enough, though I've never tried it or even held it. |

Oh, I forgot to add that I love the smell of rain and ozone, and Frederic Fekkai has the most amazing apple-scented shampoo. I would go broke buying it every few weeks, but I can't use it on my super dry hair anyway.

I love the smell of a fire in late fall coming from a house's chimney. And a campfire. Just something about the smell of those that brings back good memories.

Barring dirty diapers, babies smell so darn good, so does the air right after it rains.

Ooh, I also like walking by houses that are doing laundry, and I can smell it through their vents. The warm air that comes out smells so nice!

I do like the smell of marijuana even though I no longer smoke but hate walking into a store full of incense. All those smells mingling together gives me a headache!!!
