I don't think "fake" is the right word. The IIII instead of IV is used in watch and clock making and is referred to "watch makers four" and is used to add symmetry to the dial. I also don't mind the 4,7,9 and 11 for the same reasons. I think if Rolex would have used Roman numerals at each hour marker the dial would be too cluttered. Just my $.02

Here's a couple articles on why it is used

I´d love a 228206 with black dial.

It’s very much a real Rolex dial. I think you are incorrectly using the word fake. Heard of artistic license?

new platinum DD Models?

Anyone have a clue or a guess when we will see new platinum day date models? The problem for me is I like the ice blues (but not the crosshatch) but hate the roman numerals that aren't really the correct numerals (they should be IV, V for 4 and 5 etc.). So I'd like to see a refresh of some platinum colors and faces. Any thoughts?

Tough to say, and I don’t think anyone but Rolex knows for sure. DD40 was just released at Basel in 2015, so I don’t think we’ll see any major updates for a while. Possible we see some new dials, but there is no real way of predicting what those might look like. If you don’t like the diagonal or quadrant motifs, they offer a baguette version in the ice blue as well without any of the offending characteristics you reference.

ok, that's interesting. Thanks. I like the 14 numerals balanced on each half they reference. It is interesting to note after reading that, I see that the roman DD is somewhat similarly balanced! Not with 14 numerals on each half side, but 9. The date window removes the 3 that would be there. Did Rolex then intentionally modify the other romans to balance it out as 9 on each side? Perhaps, knowing how much deliberation they seem to put into each modification.

The aesthetics are not for everyone, but the design most certainly isn’t wrong or off in any way.

Availability of Day Date 40

I have an order in with my AD for the new fluted platinum Day Date 40. Ice Blue. What kind of wait did others have? I put my order in when they first came out this spring.

Second question: If the wait runs into next year, should the AD charge any updated price increases, or should he honor the price for when order was placed?
