WG - what are sizing tips to make it comfortable?

First time with a PM watch. Trying to figure out how to make it as comfortable as possible … and looking for tips.

Asked an AD to move the micro adjustment 3 mm tighter today. Feels too right now. Before it was hitting against my wrist bone.

I think what you're noticing is the weight difference. The PM watches move around before because they're heavier so vs SS you need them tighter if you don't want them to move around as much or alternatively get used to the fact that until you sweat a bit the watch moves more.

Roger, excuse me if this is a daft question.

If you look at this reference on the Rolex site the dial (Midnight) looks very dark and the same as the blue on the bezel…..but pics on line show the dial to be a very different tone to the dial and by quite some margin so I’d be interested to hear your feedback please.

The dial changes color dramatically according to the amount of light or sunlight. In low light, it looks black. Medium light, navy blue. Bright sunshine, it looks royal blue.

The blue in the bezel changes accordingly to the light as well. In darker settings, it looks almost black. In very bright sunshine it looks like the controversial purple that has been discussed so often.

It’s a dream watch for me, but I’m struggling to figure out sizing that will make it comfortable.

The extra weight of PM always makes it somewhat less comfortable than steel, but it should not be uncomfortable once you’re used to it. It should just be worn to correct tightness - same as any watch - not too loose, not too tight. Set the size correctly and then live with it, don’t try adjusting it, etc - and you will be used to it by the end of the week.

A wonderful problem to have Roger congrats again! I don’t have any PM pieces to offer insight, but curious to follow this thread and see what you end up doing to make it comfortable.

This. Though it may take longer than a week to adjust to the weight difference. My wrist still gets sore from wearing my Canopus Speedmaster for more than a couple hours.

Beautiful watch

The picture shows it is way too tight and the heavy watch makes it feel even more so.

Adjust the micro adjustment with the Easy link closed until you can easily insert your pinky between bracelet and wrist. Than you can always get some more space with the Easy link open if needed.
Don’t worry wearing it with an open Easy link. Designed for that.

It is a very easy DIY to adjust with Bergeon tweezers or springbar tool.

Like any other watch no matter the brand, metal, or size, a snug fit so just get pinkie finger tip under clasp or buckle and worn just above wrist bone.

I wear my PM gmt same size as my ss

It could be a question of balance. I had to switch a link from the 6 to 12 o’clock side on a PM Daytona. After that was somehow more balanced and sat perfectly.

I hope you're right. I'm having flashbacks to my SD43, which I was never able to make comfortable.

The picture was before I tightened it further. I guess I'll go back to the original setting and try to make it work.

Thanks Padi. I tried wearing it at this setting, but I am struggling to get used to it.

Part of the challenge with heavier watches is finding wrist comfort.

I can’t remember if you have the SS BLRO on jubilee or oyster … it’ll be hard to replicate the comfort of its SS brother IMHO

Too loose is a no go with PM, the watch head will roll down off the top of the wrist. With PM, they need to fit err on the tighter side. As posters said, a pinky under the bracelet at the clasp is ideal most of the time.

Truly a first world problem, but as an owner of a SS GMT, SS Sub, S/G GMT, WG Sub, WG Daytona and a RG GMT, I find my 5 digit GMT the most comfortable. After a few days of wearing any of my PM watches, putting my 16710 back on is a true welcome relief to my wrist.
First time ever considering selling a few to step up in class.

100% this. OP, how many links do you have on the 6 o’clock side? When I purchased my first Rolex the AD sized my oyster bracelet to have 5 links on the 6 o’clock side. The clasp blade was not centered on the underside of my 6.75 inch wrist and was not comfortable. I went back to the AD and asked them to move a link to the 12 o’clock side. Having 4 links on the 6 o’clock side made all the difference.

Check to see how the clasp blade is sitting underneath your wrist by holding the watch crystal flat against the top center of your wrist. While still holding the watch flip your wrist to see where the clasp blade is sitting on the underside of your wrist. The photo shows the clasp blade (marked in red) is sitting perfectly centered making for a very comfortable fit.

It's definitely nice to have the glidelock on the wg sub. If you play with the settings a bit I'm sure you can get it figured out. Good luck

For me, the key is to have it pretty snug with the clasp centered. I can't believe you won't find a comfortable setting for such a beautiful watch! I think mine is only noticeable or slightly awkward if my wrist is really sweating. I don't even find I let out the micro-adjustment, although I do spend all year in warmish weather these days.

I wear every watch I own the same. SS, PM, and OF

Even set my Glidelock models using the same practice

I do 5 and 5 with the micro adjustment in the clasp set to the biggest size. So at the beginning of the clasp not all the way in. This way centers the clasp dead center on my wrist.

If it’s gets to tight I use the easy link or Glidelock

The key to getting the right fit for PM is the same as SS, however, the difference is more noticeable in a PM watch.

I've found that centering the clasp, to include the long blade, on the underside of your wrist is key. If the watch is properly balanced, then the resulting fit, even if it's a little loose, will be more tolerable.

Unfortunately, you may have to make the decision of a little tight or a little loose, so if you do have to go loose, it will at least wear better. My two cents.

Maybe a half link helps you find a comfortable fit. I got a half link for my WG Submariner for the 6 o'clock side to get a perfect fit where the clasp is centered on my wrist and the glidelock is set to the middle position. This affords me the opportunity to open it up or close it as needed.
The GMT doesn't have the glidelock but maybe a half link helps you find a comfortable fit for you. The half link is pricey but having already spent $40K on my watch I wanted the perfect fit to enjoy it.

I've worn SS watches that weigh more than a PM BLRO. For me, it is about an ever-so-slightly snug a fit with the clasp centered and the watch sitting above the wrist bone. If it slips on top of the wrist bone, or if there is a lot of slack and it bounces into the wrist bone, it will be uncomfortable and even painful.

If you are doing a lot of outdoor activities and your wrist is sweating and swelling a lot, I do not think there is any great solution for you. Glidelock is arguably one of the finest solutions ever developed for this situation.

I just wear mine a bit tighter than steel, so for example with the Daytona, I use the half link a lot, in the summer by the afternoon.

I just dont like the watch with weight to move too much.

First, thank you to everyone for the thoughtful feedback. The short version is that if I wear the watch tighter than I normally do with other watches ... and keep it a bit higher on the wrist ... so that it doesn't move much and doesn't clang against my wrist bone ... then it is workable. It's not good or bad that way, just different from what I'm used to.

I am still curious about adjustments w.r.t. the side the links are on. Currently, 5 links on the 6 o'clock side and 6 links on the 12 o'clock side. The clasp is reasonably centered. IDK if that's a normal configuration or not. I'd be interested in understanding what it might mean to move a link.

Yup. It's ok when indoors. I did a 3-mile walk yesterday in heat and humidity and it started to bother me some.
