Best places to buy vintage rolex

Hi.

If I were interested in trying to find an air king 5500, who or where are some reputable people/shops to purchase from?

You could also find trusted dealers on Chrono24.com

if you are asking where you can get better priced vintages - then that's a whole different can of fish. Stick to the dealers for easy / quick satisfaction.

Trusted dealer. Do not get one from Ebay or a private seller unless you know exactly what you're doing. Which you probably don't, or you wouldn't be asking here.

Good luck with it. The AirKing is an awesome entry model!

I would start on Chrono24 and look for the watch and then find a dealer that has high ratings and can be verified away from the Chrono24 site. I would contact them and get all of the information I needed and I would negotiate my best deal and buy the watch. Rinse and repeat.

Agree with William et al.

The 5500 has a lot of various dials and bezels and bracelets. The early 60s thin bezel (wears a smidge bigger imho) 5500 'swiss' dial in ivory with blue second hand is my particular favourite, but there are loads of various ones. Be very careful of Black Explorer dial versions most (or at least many) are fake dials !

I've long scoured eBay for similar deals and over the years have come to the conclusion that it's mostly a waste of time for the buyer looking for one Rolex to wear - you could look for a year and come up with only losers. The small extra amount you'll spend buying from a trusted dealer is well worth the money, to give you peace of mind down the road (and possibly a warranty!) Good luck to you
