16610LV Question

Which is considered rarer, first generation, flat 4, oval O circa 2004 or last generation on a random serial circa 2010?

I’m in the market for one & I’ve found a 2010 on a random serial that I don’t think the seller fully appreciates the significance of.

I think I can do a deal on it, just wondered are LV’s that would ordinarily be a 5 digit model but actually has a 6 digit random serial considered rare?

Thanks

No modern day Rolex watch is rare some made in smaller numbers yes but rare no.Dials are made in 3 different factories so their always have been and always will be tiny variations over production years. What has changed are sellers quoting these variations as being rare, mainly to extract more money from buyers willing to pay.Take the so called flat font at the same time frame all Subs SD watches had the flat four font. But its only the green 16610LV ones that command high prices, again mainly to internet hype. With statements like these are the only true anniversary subs, but in the real world all 16610LV watches are anniversary subs.

The rarest is the Flat Four with Y and F0 serials.
All others are not uncommon.

OP if you found a random 16610LV go for it. It is by far the rarest of the original LV’s. I only know one person that had one, a long time vintage collector here.

PS I still prefer original Y serial though.

I didn’t realise they produced random serial numbers for the 16610LV. Am I right in thinking first year of the ceramic 116610LV model had G and V prefixes before they went to scrambled? Did these models overlap?

I would have loved one of the original references. I bought mine in September 2005…d serial.

Good question - I guess they must have which is a bit bizarre!

Just another little Rolex oddity

In the real world many serials overlap a year or so in 2010 we had G the last of the single letter 6 number serials ,plus the new random serials and possible single letter V. And all internet charts are only a approx date when case/clasp was stamped this don't always mean when it was made.
