Got a call from a local AD - Massachusetts

Hi All,

I got a text from my local AD and he offered a few model for me. I wonder if the local AD starting to feel the pressure on the inflation and want to get rid of their stock. Listed below - just for S and giggles which one will hold its value for the long run.

None. Precious metals typically don’t. Don’t be fooled by this temporary market.

even that blueberry sub is now selling at 39k. Now if you buy that, it will cost you 43-44k. thats easy 5-6k loss if you trying to sell it the next day.

I would not buy one if you're not keenly interested in any of them. Money could be put to better use buying a watch you do like. Of the three, the Sub will hold the most value mainly because of the larger group of folks who would buy that watch which makes finding a buyer easier. The new PM Sub is not as hot as some thought it would be, so you will lose money if you sell it quickly, I would think.

Of those three the Submariner will hold the most value, but nothing like the SS reference

That Datejust 31mm is the one to get

The 10 year rate is way higher on the investment charts for it compared to the other pieces

Only buy if it sings to you. Being "offered" these doesn't mean anything if you don't see yourself wearing and enjoying the watch.

Nothing odd about it.

I would pass as well, but respond with a request for a model you really want.

I remember when Boston AD’s were calling me offering to sell SS Subs at a discount!

Couple things here, the allocations are not getting easier because the AD is feeling “inflation”, that has the opposite effect, but rather rate hikes maybe. Also don’t buy into Rolex for investment reasons it’s ridiculous.

A ladies datejust and two men’s watches? Kind of a very specific and odd 3 to offer. Did you indicate interest in any of these models? The Blueberry Sub is what I’d pick, if I were picking one of the three. Though, the 36mm day date is a real classic watch. None of these are watches that will hold MSRP post-sale. That said, the sub probably retains the most value and it’s a pretty cool watch. You don’t see them on many wrists. Setting aside the cost—which is substantial…I’ve always wanted a blue sub.

I could certainly guess. Of course, the OP could tell us…if the AD reads this, they’ll know anyway…pretty specific choices that were offered here! Not that they’d necessarily care…

What discount are they offering? If your AD is starting to feel the pressure (if that means what I think it means) you should be able to get a good chunk off the DD and DJ and something worth having off the LB.

As to future value, who cares? If it's important, best not to risk it.

I'm biased since I plan to buy a 126619, but none will hold its value. No Rolex in PM will keep its value.
Apart from a few rare birds: Rainbow Daytona, ~Platona baguettes. The rest, you will lose on resale.
We can already see several 126619 stagnating in the announcement with premiums of not even 2k usd.

Pass on the 3 if you have no real interest.

Ditto on the DD40s, the tide is turning and the skimming begins with the PM then will spread to the TTs and finally to the SS, it's factual.

Sub is the only one I'd consider but I'd still probably pass because I prefer the 126610LV over it.

So your AD called you out of the blue and offered you 3 totally different watches (a ladies 31mm PM, a likely ladies 36mm in rose gold and a professional Sub in white gold mens model)?!?

Either you have a very weird relationship with your AD where you offered to just buy any leftover scraps, the AD is being super weird or this is a troll post....

Temporary in what regards? The ridiculous inflated prices we had been experiencing?
