Recommendations for reputable watchmaker
Hi all,
Asking for a recommendation for service that is not RSC. I need some cosmetic work done on my recently acquired 214270 - Got a little ding on one of the lugs and it will also need a light bracelet polish. A few years ago I tried a local watchmaker "Shami Fine Watchmaking" but they ended up being butchers. I reached out Zimmerman, Rolliworks to no avail. I know they're probably busy, but come on! Maybe an auto-responder? The watch doesn't need a movement service, just cosmetic but I don't want to take chances with some random person with a polishing wheel. I'm trying to keep as much material as I can on there while taking care of the ding. While I understand dings are part of life, I don't want dings that somebody else put on there Thank you!

In my opinion I think that cosmetic work should be saved for when you overhaul the movement. You’re just as likely to get a scratch and ding right after getting it fixed anyway. That being said, if you really want to get it refinished, I’ve heard good things about LA watchworks and Rik Dietel at time care inc.

Tom is one of the Best in my opinion. He has serviced many of my watches and I can recommend him with confidence.

I'm not sure that the shops are too busy.
I think more that you are asking a business to do minimal work that may be more in their labor and time than they would feel comfortable charging you for. A "little ding on a lug and light bracelet polish" can either be about 10 minutes with a fiber brush and pad, or a complete disassembly and laser welding and clean up.
