Display cases full (including SS Daytonas) at local AD

Was at the mall tonight, walked by my usual AD and saw both the black and white dial Daytonas on display. Walked in to check them out and noticed that display cases were all full: Pepsis, Batmans, a bunch of SS Subs, etc. I was told that Rolex sent a bunch of exhibition models for display. These are fully functioning models. I haven’t seen cases being full for years now.

Is it a good sign that times are changing? I was there about 2 months ago and it wasn’t as full. Makes me wonder how long those pieces will be on display before they’re sold. Can I tell them that I’d like to buy one of those once it’s done being displayed? Lol

If they are anything like my local AD then they likely have a load of buyers lined up. You can ask, but they'll probably say no.

I don’t care either way but anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded.

My AD has had a nearly full set of exhibition pieces for last 1.5-2 years. Same watches. Doubt they ever get sold.

You were there in the flesh, I would have handed my SA my CC and told him to write up the Daytona. When you can purchase one, times are changing. Don't hold your breath!!

This was the first time that all the cases were full. Never had Subs on display before, let alone Daytonas and all GMTs.

I should have tried handing my credit card over as the manager walked by. Lol
I asked the SA if I can take it home and she said they can’t sell them.

These display models have been there for years in various ADs. Yes, they're real. Once they've collected enough fingerprints they'll be sold as a "Slider" (LNIB) to someone who's met the necessary $50k spend threshold at the AD.

Sounds more like just a change in strategy about displaying inventory prior to pickup. Were they all available to try on, or strictly for display?

They were all available to try on. I tried on both the block dial in a white dial stainless steel Daytonas. The rest of them I didn’t really care for.

If this was at J. Licht & Sons Rolex Boutique, those are all exhibition pieces. They just got a big shipment.

Exhibition pieces end up being sold on The Rolex Certified Pre-Owned programme at extortionate prices.
