Center pinion-sweep second hand
On an early gilt dial 5512 Submariner, just after service:
the sweep second hand became detached from the center pinion. Relatively unusual, but possibly the diameter of the new pinion at the uppermost attachment point of the sweep hand was too small. Or, the inside diameter of the sweep hand attachment orifice was too large causing the problem of loose fit. And/or the fitment of the sweep second hand was not checked carefully upon re-assembly. (It has been immobilized to spare possible dial scuffing.) (My 1969 red 1680 Submariner went 50 years with the original set of hands. Never replaced with a service dial or hands.) Thoughts from tech side? |

Actually a lot more common that you might imagine. The seconds hand post needs to be tightened. Fairly simple fix with the right tool.
