Would you make this trade? Oysterflex Newman dial for Daydate

Pros
-versatile, wear to any occasion
-I have worn it often so it is very wearable

Cons
-wanting to add a PM rolex piece to my collection, I can honestly say it often doesn't feel like a PM piece. Black rubber strap, black bezel, black dial

So I went to a dealer and he has the daydate 40 in white dial, 2022 and he's offered the trade with my Daytona plus equivalent of USD3,100 or HKD25,000

Would you guys make this trade?
Yes as am not a fan of PM watches on OF, would rather own a full PM watch or one on leather over rubber

Thanks. Even the Olive dial only trades slightly over list.

This will totally change your watch the black bezel with a glossy alligator black strap

I just picked up my ghost Oysterflex a month ago from the best AD in the US Waikiki Rolex. I switched out the band to the Rolex alligator black strap. My A.D. Rolex Waikiki ordered it took about a week $370. Totally change the watch to a whole new level. The photos don’t do it justice. I compare it to a beautiful car with base wheels and tires (Boring). Even the texture between the two, night and day.
Next week I’m gonna stop by my AD and order a back up just in case they’re discontinued by Rolex.

Have you got photos please? I always thought these would look good on an alligator strap.

—edit - saw it above looks great!

I wouldn’t make this trade. The PN Daytona is arguably the best combination on the Daytona and is very sought after, I also think it will be collectible and more appreciated down the road as far as more modern Daytonas go. As others have said, the new model also has a lot less personality and it’s worlds more difficult to source at an AD.

There are plenty of other indicators out there that almost all Day Dates trade below list. If you don't believe me call up a dealer and say you have one to sell and come back and tell us what you find...happy to be corrected.

Perhaps 'walk in purchase' was the wrong choice of words, it won't be offered like that to a random unknown person who walks in the door. But anyone with even a small purchase history can get most DDs within a few months. The AD may say that it could take ages to create an illusion but it will arrive in a few months and they will be grateful for the custom.

I own 2 Daydates so I’ve voted with my wallet.

I have the White Gold with Olive dial (2016) and an Everose with Olive dial (2022) and would never sell either of them.

However I know 2 friends who sold their Daydate 40’s in the last 6 weeks and I can tell you they didn’t struggle whatsoever to sell their watches for very strong money into the grey market.

I really don’t see the Daydate as a flippers watch but more of a well seasoned, experienced Rolex buyer who wants to own a watch that has an incredible heritage and is a complete joy to own and wear.

I'm not trying to make a moral judgement on the matter or draw conclusions on what kind of person buys a day date, it's immaterial as this thread is basically a commercial one...ie is the trade fair?

Can you be more specific about what you mean by 'strong money'?

Jeez, Talk about a badly worded and pretty poorly condescending reply……..

I have no view on the trade question in the O/P and might revisit it later. All I will say is that both my friends sold their Daydate 40 watches for 10-14% ahead of what they paid for them so that’s reasonable in my view if that’s your metric.

Interested to know what watches you actually own if you want to share?

I am actually surprised Daydates aren't so readily available here in HK & there are loads of Daytonas on sale. And so with supply/demand logically Daydates should be trading at a higher price than they are

I think I may go against the grain here… but yes, I would rather wear a DD then a Daytona. The Daytona is an incredible watch, no doubt, but the dial is just too busy for me. I had an 116520 but eventually got rid of it, I guess my old eyes just gave up. Plus, the DD is widely recognized as the epitome of Rolex. So, if it were me… yes

Badly worded?? That's coming from the guy who doesn’t know when to not to use a capital letter or how to use an adverb properly?

Why do you want to know which watches I own? What difference does it make in the context of this thread? Do you want to get into some kind of childish willy waving contest?

A standard DD40 without a hype dial will be bought by trade below retail right now in the UK, that's fact.

As an all around watch, I'd prefer the Day Date 40. I've got a Daytona TT and a DD40 and frankly I turn to the DD first for wrist time. Good luck with your decision making!!!

Both would be the perfect two rotation watch. Sport watch and dress watch. Just got the 116519LN. Very happy with it.
