First Rolex - Next Two - What's your take?

I got my first Rolex and I am loving it. It's a bit on thicker side and getting use to wearing it, but it's not my daily.

I am looking to move into three Rolex watch collection before I stack by up the funds and hit the pause button again. I really want a GMT II, either Batgirl or Pepsi Jubilee. I know the color is completely subjective, but leaning towards the Pepsi as it pops a bit more and think it would be a fun watch. Anybody own both and have a preference?

Also, I am looking to add a third Rolex as my daily to replace my Tag. I considering a Dayjust, but with my two current watches, they are both stainless steel with a blue dial as it goes with everything I wear/my style. I want something slightly different, but don't like Yellow Gold much on my skin. Anyone wearing a Dayjust as they're daily and settled on a dial? I think for the daily no flutted bezel or Jubilee bracelet.

Thanks in advanced! I know this all completely subjective and just looking for opinions. All are welcome.

Firstly, loving the Skydweller, congrats! My first was a TT gold dial one. For the GMT, I love my BLRO, it’s my favourite Rolex however I’m also one of the few who isn’t a fan of the BLNR. If it were me, I’d add the BLRO on either bracelet and a green dial DJ oyster/smooth bezel, and then you’ll have a lovely collection with different style and colour options. But as you say, all about personal preference!

Congrats OP! What a start entering the Rolex chaos, I mean collection :)

Although I don't know much, I recently learned that this is the most sought after Rolex.

Can someone enlighten me? Is it simply they don't make much?

I can understand the Daytona but this is something that may be too busy or large for some.

Congratulations on your first new pice.
I personally have (and its my only Rolex) a DateJust Fluted Bezel Wimbledon dial on Oyster and I wear it as a daily. Man, from the moment it takes your wrist you are cursed.

Congratulations. That's one hell of a way to start the Rolex collection. I think a BLRO would go a treat with that Sky Dweller, although personally I would skip the DJ because the Sky Dweller replicates it too closely.

Congratulations OP

I’m with my friend Harry on this one, I’d skip the DJ.

A Diver would be a natural addition, and of course the BLRO is amazing IMHO

Take your time and enjoy the SkyDweller. No need to rush into anything

Yeah, I was thinking a diver would slot in nicely. It's a logical inclusion if you like them.

Congratulations on the new sky dweller. Best Rolex reference imho.

Maybe a Wimbledon dial on oyster bracelet & domed bezel? Love that configuration in 36mm.

I will also echo the previous sentiments on the DJ —it’s very similar in some respects to the beautiful SkyD you already have. Perhaps a Submariner or an Explorer would be better suited to daily wear if you plan to add a BLRO as well.

Or, crazy idea admittedly, how about a Yachtmaster or 1908 as the third piece?

Thanks for your reply. Yup leaning toward the BLRO (had to look up what this meant haha) as well. I think it's a perfect addition to begin a collection of eight Rolex, but three to start. Pretty set on this being my second pick.

I love the green dial and also the yellow one. Some people do bring a good point of it being similar to the Sky-Dweller. Something to consider!

Yeah did a lot of research. Tried on multiple watches and fell in love with this color combo and bracelet. I am very fortunate and blessed. Thanks and looking forward to building the collection.

I am not sure if it is the most sought after, but I know it's up there in terms of stainless steel watches. I think they made less blue dials than the white or black, but that's just a guess. It's a great watch!

I do love the Wimbledon. She's a beauty. Definitely considering but also thinking about a DJ being too similar to the Sky-Dweller. Good news is there's no rush to make a decision. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks! I agree on the BLRO. I am set on this being my second watch. Also taking yours and others advice on the DJ being too similar to the Sky-Dweller.

Thanks for the reply. Yup no rush at all, but I already love the research part. I am enjoying it as much as getting the watch haha.

This could work. Love the Wimbledon dial. Definitely domed bezel if I do.

Not crazy at all. I love the new 1908. It very well could be the BLRO and the 1908 in white gold. Then I need to take a chill pill and sell some more haha.

Ha I will go against the usual advice on here and say stick with the watch you have and enjoy.

Of course I don't know your personal circumstances, but if money is no object whatsoever then its harder to have the willpower to do so, but if a Rolex is still a notable purchase, I'd avoid chasing the high of a new watch or completing a collection etc, and really just appreciate the watch you have.

That's not to say I wouldn't add other watches, just not ones that come with such a premium over retail.

I enjoy my watches so much more now I have focused on enjoying them rather than thinking what I should get to improve the collection.

Ready for the hate but in my honest opnion, stick to models that currently have a investment factor to them which is gmt2, sub date, etc.

Datejust and non sports model were never really the "sought after" Rolex anyways ..its only post Covid these started fetching a prem and the resale is going sinking hard on these models. Exp1/2 are also headed the same way.

IMO, when it comes to Rolex, the heavy hitters and will remain as such are gmt2, sub date, daytona, date date.

Plus your money is well invested in these models. I would never buy a DJ or anything lessor when it comes to Rolex. Next 3 years, these models will be going to under retail in grey market.

A basic SS Submariner-C ND would work the best in a collection of the blue SD and a BLRO. Would give you a go anywhere, do anything watch and it is a classic.

I agree with Harry. Although a two tone would be substantially different I rotate between the two.

But yeah, if it’s your only watch, maybe not.

Oyster bracelet is such a great bracelet for a watch I would get one on something if I were you.

If you’re considering gold try white gold bracelet or rose gold. You will not stop at three and will eventually get gold anyway so just go for it is my 2 cents.

100% great advice. I wouldn’t say money is no object, but I’m seeing mild success with my business, thus only looking for a 3 watch collection and then pausing for a bit.

What I want from the three watch collection is versatility not just variety. The Sky Dweller is just too big as a daily in my opinion.

Generally I agree. I’m all but settled on BRLO as the second and daily. I’m looking now to the third. 1908 is a serious consideration, but not sold yet. Would also consider Daytona as a third and I could wear that daily.

True. Sub could be a go anywhere, do anything watch but I do have my Apple Watch for activities like hiking, mountain biking and snowboarding. Also I have my tag carrera for Low key, less worried about messing it up vibes.

As a third, explorer is not a bad idea. Then I have three very different watches with all different color dials.

GMTII white gold Pepsi with midnight blue dial is sexy as hell. Little more than I wanted to pay right now, but may actually consider. What do you think as a daily wearer, if full white gold?

I think you're rushing things, if I'm honest.

Wear that watch and enjoy it. In the meantime, stop thinking about the next one...or good lord, the next two.
