126500 vs 116500 - is it worth overpaying

That buyer probably intends to resale that which he purchased on a dealer to dealer group. I wouldn't bet OP can achieve those results unless he's wire ready and sitting in the group auction having already sent a $1,000 deposit as a new guy.

I don’t think so. But at the end of the day buy what you like and what you will be enjoying the most

Don't compare the Panda to any other Daytona including the black one. I'm talking about 99.99999% of people here. I know SAs who never seen one at their store, they get allocated by owners and top management only. OP go by what your heart tells you, I would wait a little as prices for the new Daytona may go down further. There is no major change to the new movement, it's still 72 hours and the old movement is a powerhorse with no problems during its existence. It's not bigger, Rolex changed the case just for the sake of change as the old Daytona was perfect in my opinion. Even the reason for the asymmetrical lugs was explained by Rolex then.
Aside from my comment immediately prior to yours, I agree with everything you state here. My understanding is that ADs get allocated low single digit numbers per year - I have heard 1 of each dial, which means - to the above point - management, friends, and family get first dibs, then the clients at the top of the jewelry stores/boutique's list by spend and/or their reseller connections.

So they are now at parity. Incredible.

The 116 is nicer imho but this shows the market already agrees the prior (116) version is the more desirable one…

Wouldn't the old black be > parity since it's discontinued + more desirable ?

Old black is more like 25-26 used. Nobody is paying 28 on moda for black 11. I like mine so I'm not knocking it.

I prefer the 116500. I have one and it's a great piece. I'd save your money and get the old one. The difference in price between the 2 will never be greater than it is now.

The 116 black is superior, and will ultimately be more desirable.
That being said, some people just need to have the newest model.

Plus the bias is real amongst resellers as the opportunity is with the 12's as most, if not all, the 11s are spoken for at this point.

Two or three went at auction (Sotheby’s) for $28k, not including shipping fees (which can be juicy) or tax… if that is what they are going for in open auction, I consider that market value…

I don’t follow Moda pricing and often hesitate with private party sales as data points because condition varies so much.

I would not consider Moda to be true retail but rather wholesale or close to wholesale.

Trusted sellers on here range from $27k to $34k depending on year and condition.

Neither is worth $10k+ premium over MSRP. $16k over on the new one is stupid, but $10k over on the old is only slightly less stupid.

I never liked and wouldn't be interested in owning the old but do like the new design....at MSRP.

The more I see the 2 references, the more I'm really starting to appreciate the hunk of ceramic on the 11 series. It adds sportiness to the watch which I think will be highly collectible down the road.

That's exactly how my wife described it. She said "that looks more sporty and that one looks more refined. But both are about the same."
