Panerai 113 or explorer 2 what would you buy?
I already have a 2 tone sub but I'm looking for a white dial watch.
I narrowed it down to the panerai 113 or explorer 2. I'm thinking of buying pre owned since there both about the same cost. What do you guys think? |

Stallone wears one, and Arnold wears one and maybe wegeman76 can wear one!!
The panerai looks sweet, but can it hold it's value like the Rolex? The explorer is weak in resale value |

if you didn't have a rolex and asked that question - i'd say it's a no-brainer, get yourself a rolex. but since you already have a rolex, then i'd be more inclined to say - get the panerai.

Interesting question . . .
However, they are such different watches I would think a little more reflection on your part might produce a clear opinion. As for me, well, I am happy with what I consider the finest Rolex ever made, so I might venture into the Panerai realm. But something about this brand makes me a little suspicious. Then again, it is aesthetically pleasing . . . But the Explorer II is such a wonderful watch. However the Explorer II--undeservedly--has poor resale. Panerai resale? I don't know . . . And will Panerai eventually be a flash in the pan? Heck, I have no idea. Overall, I guess I'm no help at all. |

I love the EXP IIs but since you already have a Rolex, go for the 113. The 113 is my panerai grail watch too .. its a beauty.

Love Panerai, own a couple.
Own a White Exp II. Would not buy the 113, I just do not think Panerai looks good with the white dial. |

Explorer II. But I personally am in love with the green crystal milgauss. That is a sharp looking watch. I wish I had a long lost rich uncle that left me his millions. *sigh* Oh well, whats a geeky watch girl to do? I need to invent something like post its. BRILLIANT!

the EXP II. love the look.
Also, in my opinion, Panerai is probably THE most overrated/overpriced brand there is. I am consistently dumbfounded by people who are willing to spend Rolex prices ( or more) on a what I see as a fad brand that is equal to or inferior to many lower priced brands. The movements are nothing special unless you get up there in the stratospheric price ranges for their just newly developed in house movements. Mostly stock ETA and Unitas that are in watches for $ 1500 or in many cases, even less. From what I can see, their history is not as long nor as rich as Rolex, Omega, Breitling, Tag, and some other swiss brands. |

Pams have tremendous resale value, and many models have appreciated probably 5X more than any modern day Rolex. If you do some research you can see Panerai models from 10 years ago that are selling for $20,000 $30,000, were a Rolex from the same period is down a couple of grand from original price. There was one on our sales corner within the past week, and that was a fair price. I was blown away when I started to look into Pams, they hold their value incredibly well. I have owned many Rolex and a few Pams, and I can say first hand that I have lost more money flipping my Rolex watches over the years than my Panerai's.
Go to www.watches24seven.com and take a look, you will be amazed. With that being said, I do love Rolex sport watches, but having a Panerai and owning a few straps is so much fun.

I don't care for the look of Panrai watches. The Ex 2 is one of my favorite watches.

i'm not sure if you were replying to my post. but, in a sense, you kind of made my point. i'm very well aware of their resale value. my point is that Panerai represents the ultimate trendy FAD brand for the well to do who don't particularly care about the quality they're getting for the price paid. certainly many have hopped on the bandwagon...their prices ( and resale prices) show that. seems THE watch to get for many well to do.
i simply don't think the quality justifies the price. i think rolex, omega, breitling are at the same level of panerai...ALL probably better ( depending on which watch) if you figure in movements, modifications on movements, variety of lines, and history. hype? that goes to panerai. they are a nice looking watch to many, however, and i can't argue aesthetics. EXP II = timeless, not oversized, Rolex quality, gmt function, understated.
PAM 113 = big and trendy (at this point, I would say post peak trendy) and really not an option if you want to wear it on a bracelet. OK, I am a bit biased, but that's how I call it. As a person who likes white dial watches I would take both, but there is no debate if I had to choose between the two. |

Don't think the Pam 113 will appreciate in value, but saying that, I really like it.
With the white dial, a brown & a black strap & it will change characteristics. Pick one up pre-loved, and you can't lose. Not a fan of the ExpII myself.

I could not agree with you more. While Panerai has introduced in-house movements, these are in the $8-10K range. Explorer all the way. Not even close for me. |

That's an easy one......
On a Rolex forum, the Exp-II!! On a Panerai forum, the 113!! Cheers - JJ
