Nfl 2024

it's finally that time again in a couple days. let's hear some predictions and hot takes

looks like the Chiefs and 49ers are the favorites with Ravens and Lions in the next tier behind them. still most interested to see this Rodgers experiment on the Jets and what Lamar can do now that he's slimmed down

my preds -

Ravens/Chiefs favorites for AFC, Dolphins/Bengals not far behind. Texans as the darkhorse and CJ on mvp watch with Diggs there now?
Eagles/49ers favorites for NFC. Bears possible dark horse? not sure about Lions and feel like last season might have been a fluke now that teams have had months to study them

dead teams - Vikings dead on arrival, Eagles if they have another unsuccessful season. honorable mention goes to my Giants, can't wait for them to blow this team up

1 - 49ers just in time for Brock Purdy to get his contract.

2 - Dolphins to AFC championship.

3 - Chiefs miss playoffs.

Keep in mind, I can't back any of that up.

Yeah! We made it! Such a long off season. Glad it’s finally here. Looking forward to another disappointing season for my Jags!

NFC:

Super Bowl hangover for 49ers.

Eagles will be better than everyone thinks, but will that be enough?

Lions and Packers will battle for first place and a first round bye.

There’s going to be a team (or teams) coming out of nowhere. Could be the Falcons, Commanders, or Bears (if Caleb Williams is the real deal).

Dallas is also going to be better than everyone thinks, but they’re not going deep into the playoffs if they make it at all.

Dumpster fires: Panthers, Cardinals, Vikings

AFC:

Chiefs are still at the top of the heap.

Bengals, Browns, Ravens, Texans, Dolphins, and Jets will contend for division championships and wildcard positions.

Jaguars will be much better than last year and will surprise everyone.

Dumpster Fires: Steelers, Patriots

Patriots I expect will be in the hunt for another Lombardi trophy. I’m so glad Tom Brady is back.

Huge Saints fan here but our coach is pedestrian imo

Dolphins win the AFC
Cowboys finally win the NFC

If the Packers can play even a little defense, watch out.

We were Giants’ season ticket holders for 11 years recently. Then we bought a house in Florida, so we are not around for most of the season. Just as well, it’s been a horrible decade. It reminds me of what Don Baylor said when he was the Cubs’ manager way back when. “ Hey, anyone can have a bad century.”

Bears win the NFC North. I think CW is the real deal, there isn't much NFL tape on him to scheme for, he is surrounded by top talent, and the defense looks better than last year. Teams have had time to study Love and Campbell, so they'll be ready for the Pack and the Lions. The Vikings are a rebuild. The Bears are ready and positioned to show up.

The Jets defense will be left at the alter again by their offense. McDaniels figures it out this year and the Fins take the AFC East.

The Eagles are poorly coached. I don't think they corrected the Sirianni dysfunction from last season (they should have fired him). The Giants will be the as bad as we think they are. Washington has promise with JD, but they are still short on talent in too many positions, and Quinn will be distracted on the wrong side of the ball. McCarthy's job is on the line and Dak needs a contract. The Boys win the division and lose their first game in the playoffs.

Fields will be QB1 in game 5.

Maye will be QB1 in game 4.

The Chiefs have reliable receivers this year, so Mahomes will be back to near immortal after slumping last year (the defense carried him all year). They will go deep, but I'm leaning towards the Bengals to take the AFC.

Dumpster fires: Cardinals, Panthers, Vikings, and Raiders.

Packers vs Eagles on Friday night is going to tell us a lot. Eagles have a high powered offense, no doubt. But they also have a questionable defense. It’s going to be an interesting game.

The one thing the Eagles have going for them is that it just seems improbable they’ll have as many injuries on the defensive side of the ball this year.

I don’t think they’re going to lose their #1 and #2 slot cornerback for the year. I don’t think they’re going to lose 2 starting linebackers for the year. And they also had safeties in-and-out of the lineup all year. Plus, they have a new defensive coordinator. We shall see…

I’m just excited for some JA17 gunslinging. Who knows what happens but there’s gonna be a show.

Also excited to see MH Jr in the bills opener as the cards are coming to town. Hopefully the weather turns because right now looks like rain.

eh, i wouldn't put a lot of weight into a week 1 game in brazil. i expect it to be a pretty gross game given the circumstances

i'm surprised people are thinking the cardinals are gonna be a dumpster fire though. a healthy Murray (biggest question mark i guess) + MHJ could easily surprise everyone and that conference is pretty weak

Trying to decide what to tell my 16yr old boy who ended up cheering and becoming a fan of Dallas Cowboys. Took him to see his first Cowboys game last season, now he is a fan forever.
Do I tell him they are the same as last year, slightly better or worse? Tough love.

You can't trust Murray, healthy or not. A billion dollar arm and a ten cent head. I don't see him preparing for success any better this year than past years.

The Eagles are pretty talented this year. Adding Saquon to compliment Hurts was brilliant. If they get their coaching harmonized they will be tough for the Cowboys to beat, but that's a big if.

The Cowboys will look a lot like last year. Dak will throw over 4000 yards, CeeDee will have a great year, the defense will look the same, and they'll fall on their face the first play off game.

Game circumstances aside, the outcome of this game will set the tone for the rest of the season for both teams. It's not a must-win game for either, but right off the bat, this is a game against two teams that could be competing for a top-two seed.

It also depends on how the game is won or lost. If the Eagles' defense gets torched, that is not going to be a good sign for them. They need to demonstrate that the offseason re-tooling made a difference.

In terms of the Cardinals, they have Marvin Harrison Jr. He'll make a difference. I'm not a fan of their coach (Gannon), but he may surprise me.

The teams are worried about security in the city and at the venue. Add that distraction to the usual first week of the season, not enough game time in the preseason, marginally competant play, and the outcome of Friday's game will be meaningless in the overall scheme of things.

Well, it's still a game of inches based on the ending of the KC-Balt game last night.

Eagles are the only team in the league that can put up 34 points in a game and still look underwhelming while doing so. It’s frustrating. So far, only two teams scored more points this weekend, but the Eagles looked sloppy at times. They won the game, but if they were totally dialed in, they could have scored 50+ points.

No team is totally dialed in yet. I get that, but the Eagles were just sloppy when you compare them to teams like Dallas and Tampa Bay, for example.

And I’m not sure what this says about Green Bay. They’re supposed to be one of the teams on the rise this year. But they struggled against an Eagles team that made a lot of mistakes. Plus, they lost Jordan Love for the next 3 or 4 weeks.

Not the only team. The bills won but McDermott damn near gifted the game to the cardinals at the end. Sure the cards may prove to be better than we think this year but giving up 28 to them doesn’t bode well for our defense.

I don't think this game says anything about either team. The first four games of the season are always the tune up games we used to get in the preseason. Plus, this was a long trip to a very away game with its own set of distractions.

Love getting injured is a set back. But not nearly as big a problem as the Bears O-line. What a s**t show they were yesterday. Those guys couldn't block a peewee team. The Bears D can keep them in it, but at some point the Bears have to figure out basic protections if they expect to win many games.

I should have been more clear, but your point is well taken. I was speaking strictly in terms of offense. I’ve never seen a team capable of looking so offensively dominating like the Eagles, while at the same time, they make terrible decisions, fumble and throw interceptions all over the field. But maybe I’m not watching some of the other teams more closely. And I suppose Dallas and Dak Prescott have been known to be like that, too.
