Black dial dilemma.
Hey everyone, I’m about to purchase a couple new watches. I currently have 2 watches, a black dial sub no date and a breitling superocean heritage black dial.
The 2 watches I want to add are watches I have wanted for years.. an IWC Mark (current mark xx) and a Navitimer (current b01). A black dial IWC is a must, as I am a Second World War history buff.. and I think the black dial w/ white subdial Navitimer is what I feel a Navitimer is in my eyes. I am essentially going to double my watch collection but it has dawned on me that all 4 watches are black dial and I feel this is a really silly thing in regards to variety in my collection. I’m second guessing myself on these potential purchases simply due to lack of color variety in the collection… yet I feel I would be convincing myself to get coloured dials that are not my first preference if I were to shake things up visually. I would love to hear any thoughts on this. Much appreciated |

There’s no right or wrong. All of my watches have black dials. I’m more focused on not having duplicates in terms of complication

Black dial dilemma.
My 3 favorite in my collection are all black dial watches: Submariner, GMT BLNR, and Speedmaster. If I could only keep 3, it would be those.
That said, it is sort of nice having a blue dial watch and a silver watch, too. But don’t force it… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Black dial dilemma.
Don’t feel pressured to have colored dial/bezel/etc. just because other people do. Many people with monotone collections who are very happy with their collections and don’t give it a second thought

Buy what you like. If you like black dials, then, ummmm, buy black dials. ;-)
Going further, you can’t wear a “colorful collection”. You can wear one watch you love at a time. |

If you are really worried about it, take a look at the white dial IWC . It's a striking watch in person and absolutely still nods to its heritage.

Black is the classic sports watch color, nothing wrong with that... I like silver for dressier watches. If all I had were black dials and silver dials I wouldn't miss anything.

I buy watches by the models, with the colors I like of that model.
That said I have blue, cream, white, black and silver dial watches. But I would never compromise on dial color of a favorite watch just to have a variety or colors.

I wouldn't buy a colored dial just for the sake of not having 4 black dialed watches. Especially, if the black dials are the ones you really like.
To a non watch person they might all look the same but you will certainly appreciate their differences. |

Get what you truly desire. If you’re really worried about it for your 5th watch find something with a different color dial and plan to pick it up. My next 2 watches will likely both be black dials too.

Black dials are great but so is some variation. The Navitimer comes in many different colors and bracelet/strap styles so maybe look there for anything that works. I have a Polar Explorer II and a YG Sky-Dweller on bracelet with the white dial. Some blue and other colors but I consistently wear and I am drawn to black dial watches. I would say with a 3-5 watch or a little larger collection I would not have an issue with black dials. It is all your choice.

You’ve wanted those watches for years and have a well-defined view of your preferences. Just buy what you like…
