Show us an old and interesting object you own
Hi All, I find old and vintage items from another era to be interesting. Do you have any old items you keep?
The item I pictured below is an ashtray from the Biltmore hotel and is marked 1925. I think it's silver. There are a few carvings on the bottom. Most notable says "Mu Sigma Convention December 25, 1929." The Mu Sigma is in greek letters. |

We’ve got a set of Hans Wegner chairs that are stamped from the maker and backed up from them that they were made in 1952……..so not bad for 72 years old. |

That’s Gorham sterling from 1925. The flaming foot mark on the bottom denotes the year 1925. Also, show more pics of that point. It looks great!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I collect a lot of different types of antiques, and have a lot of stuff that I think is cool. I have a weakness for antique chairs, because they can be used today.
A few years back I bought a massive throne chair from someone who had acquired it from Warner Bros studio’s cast offs of broken props. In the early 1940s, there were some major auctions from California Gilded Age mansions that were out of fashion and being torn down, and studios including WB bought furniture to be used as props. The armchair, and its armless set-mates, had been used in countless movies and TV shows. This chair was being discarded because the caning from its back and seat were worn away and gone. It has a burnished WB logo underneath it, in the oak. I had someone who was supposedly one of the top cane hand-weavers in LA re-cane it, which took more than half a year. The cool thing is that I spotted my chair in “Blazing Saddles.” It is located in the scenes set in the church, including the town hall scene. If I can figure out how to post photos, I will. I’m only given the option to enter a url for a photo, and not to get it from my iPad photo library. My chair can be seen in this scene, behind the minister standing at the podium, against the back wall. https://youtu.be/DNC3OciAF3w?si=DWmhVyiqakQ30rSy |

Circa 1770 oxbow slant desk, Boston Mass. Refinished and replaced pulls, but wonderfully figured Santo Domingo mahogany.

Circa 1805 English Long Case Clock. Certainly a product of the “Sun never sets on the Empire” times.
Mahogany veneers from the West Indies and an Ivory door pull from Africa. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's really neat. After selecting "Go advanced" for your reply, there's a button father down reading "manage attachments". You can upload pictures there, if they're not too large a file. Close the window, add some text and the picture should appear. It's a bit clumsy at first but it does work really well when done right.

Noticed this gentleman in my pocket a few years ago and decided to set him aside. Imagine the journey he's been on in his 100 years of travels. It's a shame there wasn't a tracker on him. The map would have been so interesting to follow.

Way more than that depending on your definition of “mankind” A lower mandible with an intact tooth was found in a piece of travertine not too long ago. It is believed to be homo erectus and 1.2-1.5 million years old. But I agree fossils are amazing!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I meant modern extant humans, H. Sapiens, but yes you are right if you include extinct/archaic species. The cutoffs are man-made and somewhat arbitrary; Mother Nature makes no such distinctions within the continuous process of evolution.
We also have a 50,000,000 year-old fish fossil. We picked this and the trilobite up at a shop at Lyme Regis during our honeymoon. Two old fossils buying fossils. |

Hardin arrowhead
Here are a couple detailed pictures of my arrowhead. I wish I could say I found this on my own, but I bought it. I liked it because it's local to Ohio. Apparently it's from 8000–6000 BC.
