Officer Down, Chicago PD

Police Officer Enrique Martinez was shot and killed yesterday while making a traffic stop at the 8000 block of South Ingleside Avenue at 8:00 p.m.

When Officer Martinez and another officer approached the stopped vehicle, they were met with rapid gunfire by an occupant in the vehicle. Officer Martinez was struck multiple times. One officer returned fire. The driver fled on foot after striking another officer with his car.

Officer Martinez was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he succumbed to his wounds. The other officer is in fair condition.

The driver was apprehended after a short pursuit. A second person in the vehicle was shot and killed during the shootout. He was found with a firearm. A third person in the back of the vehicle was arrested at the scene. One of the suspects had removed an ankle monitor.

Police Officer Martinez had served with the Chicago Police Department for almost three years.

Godspeed my brother, may you Rest In Peace.

Let's hope Americans stay armed, it's much safer that way.

Damn, that hits close to home as a suburban Chicago part-timer. Where is the respect for law officers?
