Patek 5040 Perpetual Calendar and 5135 Annual Calendar

Headed downtown today in Toronto to look at two Pateks that I have had my eyes on.

The Patek 5135J Annual Calendar has long been a favourite of mine, as well as the Patek 5040J Perpetual Calendar.

Wanted to try them both on, and it really illustrates how the difference in pictures vs real life can be.

I'm 6'4", 230lbs with 19cm/7.5 inch wrist.

While the 5135 looks bigger on the wrist in the photo, it actually wears not much different than the Daytona I wore, just different case shape, and the Patek 5135 was actually thinner.

On the other hand, the Patek 5040 looks great on my wrist in the pic, but wore somewhat smaller in person at 35.25mm x 35.6mm case size. I was amazed as well at how thin this beautiful watch was.

Having said that, loved it on my wrist and would love to have it in my collection.

Now the Patek 5135j, stunning watch in all respects, 36 x 51 mm case size, looks like it wears big in the picture, and I was expecting it to wear large, but in actuality, it wore quite nicely, didn't really stand out as a "large" watch (like my Panerai).

Looking at the movements through the casebacks was incredible, such artistry and engineering fused together, was wonderful to see.

Patek Philippe won the Men's Watch Prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève for the Gondolo Calendario 5135 in November, 2004. It truly is a stunning watch, and my visit today decided for me that it will be my next watch, until I change my mind again....

edited to add: gazing at those movements makes me really want to check out the new Omega Speedmaster 321 Ed White.

Pics or it didn't happen.

What did you end up doing? I’m thinking about the same two watches and we are about the same size…

I've loved the Patek 5135 for years, what I'm still stuck on is what PM version, been told that Rose Gold is not for my skin type, but the white gold and platinum versions I'm still flipping between.

Also, I'm considering purchasing both, but then if I'm into purchasing both, that then opens up thoughts of what other options open up at that price point. I'm taking my time, as this will most likely be my "exit" purchase in terms of my collection.

I'm 99% positive it will be the YG version, but I have a YG Day-Date, and ever since I saw this pic of the Patek 5135, it makes me think this version.

Saw this pic from another forum....not for everyone, but I love it!

5040 is a cool watch and good value today. Not a fan of the 5135 at all though.

But, but, but, could the 5135 be the Vintage Cubitus?

Could it have been a Portend of Cubitus?
