Sub bezel with GMT movement?
Why don't they make this? I use bezel on dive watch 100s of times more often than I would use GMT function. But, when traveling GMT function is used much more often than time elapsed function.
24 hour indicator could be displayed on dial itself. Obviously would make it very busy. Or I guess you buy a sub and GMT. Or a Timex Ironman from Walmart. |

Rolex sticks to its tradition. They’re not going to create a Sub and GMT hybrid. And honestly, thank God for that

I feel they could have kept the GMT bezel the same as the Sub with 120 clicks. At least that way a GMT bezel could also be used for timing as well as GMT function.

I use a GMT bezel as a simple timer constantly. I don't see the issue.

Yes that would have been good, but it seems they would rather diversify, e.g. polished centre links too.

Welcome to my dilemma.
I have found Longines Hydroconquest GMT pretty good. Mido makes one, but too big for my taste. Then when travelling, I would likely leave Rolex behind, and may prefer something that does not stick out. Seemingly biggest issue is ETA makes the movement for in house. Sellita does not seem to make one to provide to smaller brands not under Swatch. Miyota makes a 9075 which is being picked up by micro brands and some not so micro brands. Lorier hydra GMT makes an option that would fly under the radar for travel and is a travel GMT. There are a few options if you are not looking for a traveler GMT, but I presumed you were looking for a travel GMT, not a caller GMT. |

You raise a valid point about functionality. A dive watch bezel is incredibly practical for everyday use, and while the GMT function shines for travel, the two rarely overlap in purpose. A 24-hour indicator on the dial could solve this but, as you noted, it risks making the watch overly busy and that's a compromise many brands might shy away from.
Rolex, for example, likely sees the Submariner and GMT-Master II as distinct tools, encouraging collectors to own both rather than combining features into one model. For those who prioritize utility over tradition, brands like Sinn or others in the tool-watch space sometimes offer models that blend these functionalities. But ultimately, it seems manufacturers assume we’ll either own multiple watches or opt for simpler, utilitarian solutions like a Timex. It’s an interesting design challenge to ponder! |

Get a Squale GMT. 120 click bezel, 300m WR with GMT function.
Great watch, I had one and I miss it a lot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don’t travel extensively, but enough that I have a non-Rolex GMT that I take whenever I cross time zones. It’s a great GADA watch that works perfectly for anything outside of formal events where a watch likely wouldn’t be worn or in water outside of a leisurely ocean swim. It also flies under the radar for what it is.
At this point I’d take an independently adjustable hour hand and call the Sub my exit watch. I should just buy a 116710LN. |

My Zelos Thresher GMT/Diver does both well. The only issue I have with it is the poor legibility because of low contrast between the dial and the hands and indices.

I am thankful there are no hybrid models in Rolex, but i would appreciate smaller numeric on GMT bezel. These big numbers on the bezel does not sink well with me

A custom made explorer 2 with a gmt dial (could be other way round) was made for ollie shepard on the transglobe expedition in 1979- so it can be done

I agree that the Longines Hydroconquest GMT is a great option. Especially for traveling to places where you may be anxious to wear Rolex.
An entry level luxury jumping hour GMT with a movement modified exclusively for Longines that can be had about for $2500 after typical discount. It’s a really good package for the money. I’ve almost bought one twice, but always end up paying a little more for a Tudor. |

It's true that a 24-hour indicator could make the dial quite busy, but it would definitely enhance the functionality for travelers.

Means the GMT functionality is the crown moves the GMT forward and backward. If you need to keep track of where other people are, you set the GMT to that person's time zone, and keep the hour hand like any standard watch.
The GMT functionality relates only to moving the GMT hand. Traveler GMT on the other hand, you set the GMT to the time you want to keep track of. Your home time, or GMT for example. When you physically travel, the GMT functionality allows you to move the hour hand forward or backward based on your travel, while the GMT hand continues with the home or GMT time. This allows you to "Jump" the hour hand, without hacking or stopping the movement. From my view, completely different functionality, and I have no use for a caller GMT. For my use the ideal is Traveler functionality, with an inner bezel for my home time, quick adjustment of hour hand, while keeping an outer timing bezel. I have 2 of these. One is a quartz, but the function allows me to move the hour hand forward, not backward, the tradeoff is a quick set date. Not that important for an eco-drive. My other GMT has the Miyota, functions as I want, not as aesthetically pleasing, but functionality and not being very concerned with theft on it is also a plus. Many Omega have the quick set hour, within the Aqua-terra line. Just the dial hand combinations along with the helium escape valve have all turned me off aesthetically. |
