All those pics I posted are of 1 GMTII and 1 SUBLV, with an assortment of extra parts swapped for each picture. So my collection isn't that large.

As far as a new "dress watch" for me, a couple of issues there. First I am not too fond of yellow gold watches unless it is the SUB TT yellow gold on black. Second I am 6'7", 260lbs and have about an 8.5" wrist, so the typical smaller dress watches do not look right on me. The smallest I like is a 40mm. But somewhere I do have a Baume & Mercier Hampton Milleis XL that is S/S black face on a brown crocodile strap. I also have a black strap for it. I just can't see me wearing that over my SUBLV or GMTII. But maybe, I'll have to find it and wear it and see how it feels

I reckon the sub with black dial looks good under a suit.

I vote for the black Sub on oyster for both occasions.

If you're looking for a versatile sports/dress watch, check out the Omega AT. I recently picked up a silver faced one and on the bracelet, it looks pretty sporty, but put it on a black gator strap, it dresses up very nicely. Reminiscent of the old school dress Omegas. Also, the AT comes in a 42mm variant which will definitely suit your big wrists.

The LV with a black bezel would go with anything.

Count me in with the crowd that thinks that a sport rolex looks out of place at a black tie event. You could wear some dark black jeans with the tux as well, but it doesn't really fit does it? There seems to be a perception that just because something is expensive that it can somehow be acceptible for black or white tie events, works for James Bond in all those films, right. I don't believe this to be true.
Just go pick up a preowned "dressy" watch, of whatever size you require, for your future formal events. The GMT or Sub should be fine with a suit, but for a wedding I would still choose my formal wear watch.
Of course, societies "rules/norms" of the past don't seem to apply to anything anymore, so just try to not look like a boor and you should be fine. No one really cares what you wear on your wrist. Wear what you want!
Regards,

I think you should wear the cheapest one you have because you will probably get smashed at the reception.

I'm glad I did too, I've wore my watch for almost every significant event in my life since 1985. I was wearing it when I met my wife to be, I was wearing it when I proposed, I was wearing it when my first child was born, then my second. I've wore it in many a friends wedding when I was in the wedding party. I've wore it when we bought and sold houses, taken new jobs, been promoted, celebrated birthdays & anniversarys, and even wore it recently as a pall bearer in a funeral. I think it adds to the back story and the sentimental value of the watch, something I hope my kids will value when one if them gets it. Pick your favorite and wear it with pride.
Well said. I feel the same way.

Or as some have pointed out, maybe a "more formal" watch. So, how about a "controversially dressier" watch I found in my sock drawer from my younger less informed days:

Baume & Mercier Hampton Milleis XL, 30mm x 45.5mm

On brown:

On Black:

A sports watch will never be an appropriate dress watch no matter how much it costs. I'm getting married Oct 16TH. All my tool watches will be left at home and I'll most likely wear a vintage Omega tank on a black strap. Two hands, WG case, and so thin it won't even be seen as it will be under my cuff. This debate always causes a stir around here. I won't even wear a chrono on a strap with a suit. I have lots of vintage Omegas, Bulovas, and Hamiltons which are more appropriate. You have lots of casual days in which to wear your tool/sports watches. PS, the strap color should always match your shoes and belt.

I used to think like that until I got my YG DD.

My tank will sit for a long, long time now.

I think most of the attentions will be on the bride rather than the watch on your wrist.

You could always get a gold pocket watch and chain considering you are a big boy

Another choice would be to not wear a watch at all.

I have a 38mm IWC on a strap and frankly 38mm is fine for a dress watch no matter how big you are. You might not feel comfortable with it but remember, that's just you. Everyone else will see a gold dress watch and think nothing of it.

If you don't want to buy a new watch I would suggest you buy a black leather strap, put it on a watch with a black bezel and go with that.

In all actuality no one will notice but you and three or four others but screw them In the future you can look around, I've seen some really nice examples where they take a pocket watch from the late 1800's and turn it into a wrist watch.....to big for most but it might be just right for you.

Don't worry too much about it, the next day it will be just be another drunkin' haze

Good luck and let us know what you did.

I am really bad with camera shots... I can never seem to get the angle, lighting and/or focus right! lol

These were my attempts. Any tips to taking better shots? (besides the obvious "clean the watch first"! haha)

If you want my advice, go with your gut instinct on the day. For me, a classic 16610 on Oyster will be spot on in any formal situation

Wear what you feel most comfortable with. If it were me, I'd think about a 36mm 116000 no date with a silver dial and arabic numbers- goes with a suit or tux. I also think you have a winner with your Baume and Mercier on the black strap- that'll go just fine with either outfit, and is pleasantly formal.
