DEEPSEA How many out there

We must agree that the DEEPSEA is the latest and by far the most innovative model that Rolex has brought to us in a long time on an engineering point of view at least . It seemed in the early days people loved it or just hated it , now it seems to be gaining popularity . Therefor it would be interesting to see how many we have here with us and what status it has with our members . Are you happy with it ? Does it meet your expectations or not , does it surpass them ? etc . Will try to concoct a poll with multiple answers and see if we can paint a better picture of that watch.
It you please could comment on why you love or hate it . And of course as we all love pictures , please post as many you can or the "MODS" let us have space .

From day one ( saw the pictures from baselworld ) I wanted that watch , then many contradictory reports were available on the net ... ranging from stunning to nothing special and far too heavy and bulky . Of course back the the crisis hadn't us and 2 years waiting lists were announced or premiums of 2000 usd and plus were common if you wanted the watch the same day . I still wanted it .... Last year my AD called me and said if I came before the weekend I could have one as an other customer when he took possession realised that it was too big for him and decided not to keep it . The call must have come around 19h00 and the next morning I was having a coffee with one of the sales staff opposite the AD , as he too was waiting for the owner to turn up to open up the shop .
It did make a difference when I took of my 116520 to put the 116660 on ( after taking off 3 links ) where I wear my Daytona with all links with only the quick "half"link in .
No regrets here , still love the watch as it was day one , if not more .
I'm certainly not the person that "needs" a watchs that can stand 4 tons of pressure , but is is surly comforting knowing your watch can , like no other .
Proud to be in the SDDS club !

Dont love it or hate it just cannot see the point of it overpriced for what it is.The SD was more than enough for any man past or present.Although technically a good watch if it floats your boat buy it.As today I would doubt if 90% of all divers watches bought ever see water deeper than there swimming pool.

I've owned the Deepsea for 6 months now. Initially, I had reservations but these were cleared up by certain members of TRF (notably Moby33 and Yves - thank you kind sirs for steering me onto the right path) and I can honestly say it's been a great buy. I love the weight and sheer presence the watch has, and I love the look of the ceramic bezel. The blue lume is very pretty and Glidelock makes the watch very comfortable to wear because you can fine-tune it to fit your wrist in different temperatures. The watch reeks "quality'' and solid engineering.

Perhaps the best endorsement I can offer is that shortly after I bought mine, two good friends of mine also purchased Deepseas of their own!!

I was very impressed by the technical specifications, but never seriously thought of buying one due to its size. Then one day I tried it on while buying another watch. Loved the look and feel of the SDDS in person. Bought it a week later.

For a while I thought it was too big, but then the pictures on this forum showed me what a really beautiful watch it is. It didn't seem so big anymore.

I hope you guys aren't tired of this picture yet. I know I'm not.

Too big, too thick, expensive, looks awkward on thin wrists. Bracelet looks thin. Ugly lettering ESCAPE VALVE (YUCK!!). Probably a great watch for a diver. Just my opinion.

Have owned mine since Friday, that is three days. I have not taken it off apart from when I took some pics of it. I love the weight and look of the watch. I do scuba dive and I will be wearing it on my dives though I will be limited to 42m (135ft for our americam cousins). It is nice to know that if I am on a road and a one ton truck rolls over me the watch will still be working for my family to time my funeral.

Seriously though,. fabulous writing on the inside ring which is not obtrussive in any way, beautiful smooth slightly recessed escape valve, smooth bezzel operation, Fabulous domed saphire, and that glow at night - awesome. Very happy with my purchase.

It's NOT too big, it's NOT too thick. The bracelet is NOT too thin, in fact, it's very comfortable. It's a great watch for diver's and non-divers. I liked the SD 4000 but just to small.

I like the fact that it's expensive because I don't want to see them on every wrist when I go out.

A PERFECT watch for me

I showed the watch to my brother yesterday and told him that I was going to Dublin for a wedding this is what he said in his email later that day.

He wrote “Its good to spend on what you like; makes you think why you do what you do and who you are and reminds you what you have made of yourself. A trip to Dublin in your Merc and the Rolex on your wrist sounds good. “

Thats exactly how I feel.

Sounds good to me.

I was thinking the other day "isn't life a bitch when bang your Rolex on your BMW" and then realised that there are a lot of people who wouldn't mind being in that situation.

The Best

I soon as I saw the DSSD I knew I had to get it. I started to think about how to buy this watch with a bad economy. I went to Mayors Jewelers and saw it, Put it on and I was hooked. I sold my K series TT Black Sub, added a little cash and The DSSD was mine. Not too big, Not heavy, Daily wear, You adapt to it , in fact I tried on a Daytona the other day and it felt like a kids watch... Absolutely no regrets in fact it is the absolute best Rolex I have ever owned

You are right about the Daytona , nowadays when I do put de Daytona on ( mainly when I have to put on a suit & tie ) I tend to check if I'm wearing a watch or haven't lost it .

My Deepsea is the first Rolex that I have ever owned - I sold all my other sportswatches and my Omega Vintage dress watch collection (except one Pie Pan Constellation) to get it. And I must admit that I have not had a single moment of regret !!!

I am thrilled with the watch - the comfort of it in spite of its height ! And the overengineering of it just adds more pleasure of ownership !!

And as some of you already know, the overengineering in my case has a point, because I will take it with me to Afghanistan.

But I must say, that if I had to live the rest of my life with just one watch .............. the Deepsea would be my choice whithout any hesitation !!

And now for some pics (you asked for it ):

Ahhh...I wouldn't be too concerned w/ 'ol Triplocks words...that guy has been an 'ol fuddy-duddy hater of the watch since day one. I guarantee he's never even experienced the watch in person or had it on his wrist for more than 2 seconds. Then there are people like us that have actually owned Subs & SD AND the DSSD (w/ DS ownership being the most important criteria IMO if you're going to criticize things like size & weight) and therefore can give an accurate comparison of ALL based on something a little more concrete than internet photos. Those same 'ol same 'ol complaints have run their course IMO.

My only complaint/question w/ this poll is why can't I "own one" and be "extremely satisfied with it"? I had to choose...that's not fair.

Interestingly enough, as of this post there are no votes for "Regret Buying It'. That says a lot IMO. I've purchased many watches over the years that I would admit I regretted buying (hence the reason for their quick flip). Again, people that are on the fence about this watch might want to take note of polls like this and jump into DSSD ownership...I have a feeling they will quickly see why "Regret Buying It" doesn't seem to get any play from actual owners.

You’re correct Tristan you can indeed choose both...I did and it accepted both answers.

I have yet to post any pictures of my new DSSD but can confirm I’m another 100% satisfied customer. I made the choice of trading in my prior rubberclad ROO (a very nice watch indeed) for the DSSD and some cash and only regret I did not do so sooner, as it simply covers everything I want in a casual/weekend robust watch. I’m fortunate enough to also own a GMT IIC so there are no potential issues with “should such a watch be worn with a suit etc.

If I could only keep one it would still be the DSSD however, I would simply roll up my shirtsleeves …..WOW what a watch; wearing it right now in fact!

I dont own one......YET!!!
But a friend does, what a GREAT watch......as moby333 says theres some fuddy duddy views on here.....
I own a s/s daytona, and a couple of Breitlings, one being the Bentley 6.75.
Dare i say it......its DAMN RIGHT ABOUT TIME that Rolex bought out another supercase 'bulky' watch...

I love my daytona, and also love my 6.75....but whilst wearing the 6.75, always thought to myself '' i wish it was a Rolex '' and hence why i'm well chuffed that Rolex produced a more 'bulky' or 'Loud' watch.....rolex are smart.... i can tell you that most 18-30 year olds would pick the Deep Sea over any other Rolex, and these are the future middle aged 'i'm gonna pass this down' generation.

I think the SDDS is definitely an icon in the making , dare i say it, an icon of Submariner proportions

Oops...I guess I missed that as I only selected one and now it's too late. Oh well.

BTW...I see we finally have a 'Regret Buying' vote...but no feedback. What gives...lets hear from the lone dissenter...why the regret?
