Dreaming of an upgrade/going back to a sub.
Hello,
I've gotten the Rolex Forum bug. Thank god my girlfriend can't see the hour count I've already logged. I'm feverishly looking to upgrade my late '60s Oyster Perpetual Date with an engine-turned bezel to a sub or black dial Explorer II. If only I had not sold my '97 submariner/date for $2k in '01 to a very reputable dealer I might not feel so bitter. Pardon my mini-rant, but it is certainly a regret, nothing like being the original owner from an authorized dealer! So the story is: I paid $1700 2 years ago for my current watch and would love to upgrade for about a net cost of $1000. Firstly, is this possible? I would buy my sub back for $2k in a heartbeat, but I know such opportunities do not often come around! Papers and boxes are not the issue, simply peace of mind regarding its authenticity is the key. I recognize my story is no doubt quite a common one, but I am hopeful that I have come to the right place. Thanks for reading. Allan |

Welcome to TRF.
I doubt you can touch a Sub date for under $3k even. Legit pre-loved Subs go for roughly $3,500+

For under $3K I would aim for an Explorer II or a Sub ND with no papers. Welcome to TRF, and good luck with your search.

Thanks guys I do appreciate the welcome!
Thanks for reading my post, 43 of you at last count, which is quite impressive. I have scans, not photos of my watch so it's got some funny hues which are not found on the actual watch, but for now it's what I've got. You guys have set the bar however for artistic photos of your watches! I would be curious if anyone owns a watch similar to mine, as mine was bought from an estate dealer here in SF I have little information about it's origins. Thanks for checking out my post.
Kindly, Allan |
