What would you do?

Ok, here's the problem. I want to buy another watch and I'm looking at a GMT Master II. However, I find myself in a three way split as to which to pull the trigger on. (Before someone mentions it, they are all smiling at me )

These are the finalists:

1) TT GMT Master II C 116713 ($7500)
2) SS GMT Master II C 116710 ($6500)
3) SS GMT Master II Coke 16710 ($5750)

If I go with the 16710, I would of course be looking to get a Pepsi insert and a jubilee bracelet as well.

So, my question is what would you do and why?

The classic GMT's are my favorite Rolex models ever made so my vote was simple.

I love this watch... Got it a week or so ago.

I happened to find a MINT specimen and I am quite pleased I made this choice!

Gotta agree. Multiple insert and bracelet options plus they ain't makin' anymore.
You can always get a GMT IIc [or TTc] in the future.

I Vote 2...

What would you do if I sang out of tune,
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song
And I'll try not to sing out of key.

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends at TRF
Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends at TRF
Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends at TRF

What do I do when my love is away
(Does it worry you to be alone?)
How do I feel by the end of the day,
(Are you sad because you're on your own?)

No, I get by with a little help from my friends at TRF
Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends at TRF
Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends at TRF

Do you need anybody
I need somebody to love
Could it be anybody
I want somebody to love.

Would you believe in a love at first sight
Yes, I'm certain that it happens all the time
What do you see when you turn out the light
I can't tell you but I know it's mine,

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends at TRF
Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends at TRF
Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends at TRF

Do you need anybody
I just need someone to love
Could it be anybody
I want somebody to love.

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends at TRF
with a little help from my friends. at TRF

I should have made a better case for the GMT II Coke. A picture does not tell it all...

The watch has the proportions of the current-day Sub and brushed bracelet, but is itself, discontinued. You can find them on TRF from $3500 and higher for MINT conditioned. David SW had one that was BNIB.

I really like the clasp - a smaller version of the flip lock on the Sub. I also like the fact that I can turn it into a Pepsi and back to Coke again if I wish. Of course you want to limit the removing of the Bezel or you will eventually wear down the watch case.

I was thinking of looking for a Super Jubilee as well Ryan. Are they easy to get in Japan????

Certainly more of a bargain than the GMT IIC....but of course it comes to personal preference and money may not be the main driver here.

Which way are you leaning Ryan?

The look and feel of TT GMT II C is something else. That would be my choice.

I voted for the GMT IIc, 116710.

This would have been my pick if I was going to buy a brand new piece. But then again after looking at masugu's pic above of his Coke, and seeing how beautiful this one really is + that you can find these in such an excellent condition in the used market, I would probably think more then twice before going for a brand new watch.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Joe

If you can justify the extra expense, go for the 116713, if not, the 116710 is still an incredible watch, and a big, big improvement on the 16710

Voted Coke Classic. One of my favorite Rolex watches, though I don't own one yet. I will at some point. I envy Bill and his beautiful example.

Thanks everyone for your input so far. I'm actually heading into Fukuoka tomorrow to try them all on and get some feel for them. Should be a good day I'll take a few pics with the cell as well.

Thanks Masugu (I love your name )

Earlier this year I was leaning hard towards the 16710 (mainly thanks to Dan Pierce and his beautiful photos ), but recently I've become drawn to the 116710. As for the 116713, the price seems very good and since I've never owned a watch that had gold in it, it would be something new

I don't see that it would be a problem picking up a super jubilee, but I'll check into that too

It's only gold-plated and it was sent to me as a gift by a very close friend TRF member here.

Looking at the poll resuls as of now it's basically a three way tie.

If it were me I'd go for the Coke bezel, I like the new ceramic too but hope Rolex can figure out how to make the Pepsi and Coke bezels in ceramic.
