Rolex Daytona
Hi,
I have been lusting after a Daytona for a while now. There is a D series black face for sale for around 8400US here locally so I can avoid high duties and taxes across the border. Is that a good deal? I believe D series is made at around 2005-2006. The newer ones are selling around 9500US. Should I pull the trigger on the D series or the newer M or V series. I am no Daytona expert, but any difference between the D and newer M series? Any comments will be appreciated. |

There is no difference in any Daytona made since 2000 except for the Rolex etching on the rehaut starting last year, and the latest clasp on new models..

Sounds fair if it is in very good condition with box and papers...

That's a fair price. Remember the time for a service could be around the corner. Runs around $1000.

Sorry Larry , who I'm I to correct you but I truly believe that the rehaut engraving on 116520 started with late Z-reg ( 2007 ) I personally know of one .

Yes etching started at the end of the Z series, I have one. 8400US is fair in Canada. I really wanted the etching and the new bracelet so I paid a little bit more.
For what you're getting, price is fair. The rest is up to you. |

The guy had the watch serviced in March. It still has around 5 months warranty left. Wow. I didn't know the service cost that much? That is heck of s lot of money. Wonder what is involved? Anyone know? |

They take it down to pieces, the movement that is, and clean and lubricate everything. Being a chronograph movement it is much more complex than a standard movement with only a date like the 3135 for example. More time and effort, means more money for service. They also clean and polish the watch and everything else.

Just curious, what is the common opinion of how often a Daytona needs to be serviced? One that is not used harshly, just used as a piece of jewelery, gently. Thanks!
