Am I alone in my OCD re the accuracy of my watches??

I am constantly checking the accuracy of my mechanical/automatic watches against the GMT web site. Always re synchronizing and watching for disparities...I think I may be driving myself crazy.

Am I alone in this? What do you consider acceptable accuracy from your Rolex's?

You are not alone, but you DO need to loosen up. As long as the watches are within COSC standards (and those standards are actually rather loose, compared to atomic clock standards), then everything is fine.

Go out and have a beer or something!

understand where you are coming from but as Larry suggested, you may want to loosen up and drink a pint.

I have never checked the accuracy of my Rolexes and am not planning on to.

If making sure the watch is accurate so you won't miss the train or a meeting, then I think setting the watch 5 mins faster will def solve the problem of potentially being late. Just my 2 pence. :-)

I agree, Allan, especially with the beer part.

Seriously, OP, I think we all probably go through this, but you do have to come to grips with the fact that while mechanical watches are not atomic clock accurate, they are more accurate than most of us will ever need. When you consider the number of seconds in a day, -4/+6 is nothing.

I used to use a spreadsheet program to time the accuracy of all of my mechanical and quartz watches. Then I had kids. I haven't done it since.

What's acceptable to me is -0/+6 secs a day. I consider that excellent timekeeping.

I think that your OCD is out of control when you have to count to 27, rub your belly 3 times, wash the dishes and then check the accuracy of your timepieces.

I am on my Rolex the most, my IWC next and then my Patek last. I think I care most about the Rolex because it's the most expensive "tool" watch I have (IWC, Breitling and Tag were much, much less), and right now it's getting the most wrist time. With my Patek, as long as it's running and not making me early/late I don't really care because I didn't buy a Patek for the purpose of having an ultra-precise watch, I bought it because having a Patek meant a lot to me even with the understanding that there are many other mechanical watches that are more precise, but they still aren't Pateks.

You are not alone but, like Allan suggested......you need to loosen up a bit! I have only done it once and found that there weren't any issues besides the usual +5 seconds daily, didn't bother me at all.

Nothing wrong at all. We pay thousands for our watches so we have every right to expect a high degree of accuracy - within reason, of course. I think the COSC standard is +/- 6 secs a day, so I'm happy once I find my watches performing to around that level.

I do do this against the time shown on the morning news programme, I have the TV on each morning and the running seconds just happens to be there, so why not?

It only proves how inaccurate and sometimes erratic a mechanic watch can be. Cheers,

I used to fret all the time, now I dont really worry about it. Its not perfect I think my watch needs a tune up but its close enough

Check my Sub each morning at 9 to "make sure" that it gained the usual 1.5 seconds. Re-set it -23 seconds on the first day of each month (except Feb.) and also change the date when needed.

I reset mine every weekend and am always pleased and amazed at the accuracy.
