Making a small, quiet return

But with excellent news! I am going to Washington, DC at the end of May! My mom is going for a conference, and I get to go with her. I am so excited, I have always wanted to see the Lincoln Memorial!

Now I just need ideas on what to do while I'm there, because she will be in conferences all day. What are some fun, off-the-map activities I can do? Any tips or insider hints would be great!

(p.s. I have really, really missed you all)

JJ, I read your thread about being worried about your eye appointment in February. I was doing some research at work, I will send it to you when I go in tomorrow okay?

Fine, that would be really welcome, Ashley.

The important thing I'd like to know is how many injections in the eye do I require before I start to see some improvement. So far, I've had just the one on the 7th of Jan.

Thanks -JJ

Any of the monuments are worth the trip to see. Go see the White House. Don't know if they still offer tours but it's interesting cause on Pennsylvania Ave ( the famous view ) you have the WH and if you turn around, there are protesters with huge signs... Kinda funny, you never see it on TV.

Jefferson memorial is good too. Depending on your time, some of the Smithsonian buildings would be good. Make sure you do some research if you go to the museum because it is spread out over like 19 buildings and would include a lot of walking!!

Have fun!!

Thanks! I have been doing some research and already have like, a huge list of stuff to do on my blog. I was wondering if it was worth the hoops I have to jump through to go to the White House. I'll look into that, too!

Ash, Your going to love it in DC if you have never been there. I was just in DC last weekend and I never get tired of visiting there. For your first time there, the best bet would probaly be the Arlington Cemetary tour. They have a network of tour buses "get off and go" type tours through out the city that could fill up a week.
You have the Smithsonian (air and space museum most popular), all the memorials and hey, why not go to the White House and Hi to President Obama for me!
Patrick comes from that area. He'll undoubtably know everything to do in Washington.

Here is a list of stuff I have compiled to do, I had no idea there was SO much history there! Of course I knew there were the monuments and stuff, but wow. DC seems like an amazing city!

See the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, tour the National Mall, C & O Canal, Jefferson Memorial, the National Cathedral (beautiful picture-taking there!), National Geographic Museum, the Museum of Natural History (how could I leave that one out?), National Zoo…

- Hopefully join in on some protest in Lafayette park!

- Tour the Supreme Court

- Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens

- The Holocaust Museum

- Theodore Roosevelt Island

Hi!!!

Great to see you back.

Have lots of fun in Washington! I really, really like the museums, and the best part is that they are free (well, the Smithsonian ones, at least). And then there's walking around the Mall. Plenty of good restaurants, you can try Jaleo for really good Spanish food.

There are enough things to keep you busy all the time.

Again, welcome back!!!

How many days will you be there? There is so much to see and do, you'll have to pace yourself. What a wonderful city to visit.

ps. Welcome back, we "all" missed you!

Salut, Steve!

I think I will be there for about five days, and since I will be alone through most of it, I want to keep myself busy. It looks just amazing there though.. I am so excited!!

spent alot of time in d.c.

(1) go see the Lincoln memorial at night. MUST do. (besides, the darkness hides the sad state of the reflecting pool, e.g. mud and bird guano).

(2) take a day and just go sit in the various rooms of the Nat'l Gallery. Do -not- rush.

(3) Def go party in G'town. Eating, walking about, et cetera.

(4) Not sure if they still do this, but call ahead and get tour from office of your state rep? Also go see the library of Congress.

If that fails, I hear White House partys are really easy to get into these days :-)

And of course, go see the Smithsonian(s), eat a hotdog on the mall, and give a nod to the memorials.

Have fun.

Ooops! Sorry, I heard her say she was going with her mom and for some reason it ran together.

Can we buy Canada? They keep showing us all these beautiful women there...and many of them move here. Surely THAT deserves a bailout?
