If you're only going to have one watch, I'd pick the GMT in all black.

I was faced with a similar decision and chose the Sub LV. The GMT is a beautiful timepiece (all versions) and is very versatile, I especially liked the GMT IIc. Love the Coke and Pepsi versions as well. Why did I choose the sub then? It is simple, understated, and versatile as well and I would rarely if ever use the 24 hour hand. I love the maxi-dial of the LV and I purchased a black bezel insert and did the "kind of" two timepieces in one routine. You can never go wrong with a Sub or GMT (all versions) in my opinion.

This is a really tough call - you have to try them both on. I bought the GMT first, then got a sub after many years because I always liked it. I think if I had to go with only one though, it would have to be the GMT.

Just curious....assuming the same bracelet, what is it about the GMT that makes it more comfortable?

Same dilemma I had 23 years ago. Loved both the Sub and the GMT. Must have looked at the Rolex brochures hundreds of times and visited numerous Rolex AD's across the country. Finally on a trip out west, went to a mall where they had 2 Rolex AD's (across from each other), checked out the Subs and GMT's one last time, negotiated price, and went for the GMT 16750. More versatile with suits and the thinner case fit nicer under a dress shirt, plus sporty enough for every day wear. The only regret I had was that I didn't purchase both watches back when they could be had for under $2k as I still loved the Sub. On a scale of 1-10, for me the GMT was a 10.0 and the Sub was a 9.9.
Fast forward to today, I now have both, so now it is the best of both worlds. The point is, get which ever one your gut tells you, cause it's never wrong. And there will Always be other opportunities in the future to get the other one, as I suspect you eventually will. Best of Luck! |

I have a SUB, been wearing it 5 days a week for the past 7 years. Between the Sub and GMT at the time the sub was the easy winner.
Bear in mind this was my first Rolex and first luxury watch. So i wanted something that would look good at the office and on the beach and everywhere in between. All the reviews suggested the Sub was the one. _Faide |

My vote is the GMT. Makes me want a GMT II again! My GMT 16750 is hands down my favorite piece b/c it's so comfortable! I've been wearing the sub a good bit, as once the GMT comes out- it's tough to swich things up!

Both.
Any collector would be well served by the two.

My two Rollies are a sub and a pepsi GMT. Of the two, I prefer the sub......it just sings to me every time I look at it.
Both are true classic mens watches though, so you cant go wrong. |

Unless your a pilot, the SS Sub would be more practical.

Oooh, tough call. I would probably go GMT first, then nab a Sub later, which is what I did.

GMT II Coke is pretty. However, you can buy the Pepsi bezel. I prefer the GMT II over the Sub.

Like you, I am torn between the two. I wore a Sub for 17 years and I've switched to GMT for the next 17. The Sub, the GMTIIc or the GMT with a black bezel would go with anything.

I'm sorry, but how? 99% of people don't dive below 50-60m anyway and 99% of divers use dive computers as well.
Most people travel out of their timezone eventually, and its a great tool to have. Also, it still maintains usefulness in day-to-day situations by being able to track either GMT time then subtracting or adding to find the time anywhere, or you can leave it on your local time, and track military hours. Honestly the GMT II is a whole lot of usefulness, and while I love the sub, unless your an extremely avid diver, who uses it instead of a dive computer, there is no way that a sub is more practical. Just so you know, this isn't biased I own a sub personally and love it, it just isn't the most practical watch in the world for most people. |

go for the gmt2c the best rolex sports watch right now.
not thick for a dive watch but solid feel and weight. more for formal than casual though. but i use it for both and its fine! |

I have both. I use the two time zone feature of the GMT IIc a lot so that would be my first choice. I also use the timer feature of my Sub bezel a lot on weekends.

I really enjoyed having that 2nd time zone function when I am on my business travel. Here you can see me using a GMTC II in Frankfurt Germany.
Then again, I really do enjoy using the Sub(Non date) or the Tudor Snowflake for my daily use!!
