Protecting TRF Members..
It seems that daily we are getting first time posters who describe their watch in detail.... some almost already look like an ad..
They want to sell it, but just want a value, or "how do I get the best price", or "what should I do with it".. and on and on.... In many cases, the ploy is simple........ get interest in the watch, and get pm's with offers, bypassing the TRF For Sale Boards and it's rules.. We have had more than one member on TRF defrauded by these Johnny-come-latelys... Sometimes we let them ride for a few posts until the information is given (value), and other times it is so egregious, we pull them right away... It's for the protection of TRF members, and also for our TRF sellers who do follow the rules. It is patently wrong to let these first posters push their watch on the main board while the members have to stay on the For Sale Boards... But further...... with absolutely no background, you may fall victim to a slick conman.......... it's happened before... ............

Thanks for the heads-up and for watching out for members. It never occured to me that any of these posts could be anything more than requests for help, but now that you point it out, it's good to know that there could be a hidden agenda.

Great observation. I understand the problem, but wonder if just having more posts is "the" answer to the problem. For example, I don't have a large number of posts, but am on this forum almost every night for hours reading and absorbing so I do consider myself a member, just not acummulating the posting numbers. Since I've been a buyer, not a seller, it hasn't presented a problem for me,though. As I've seen posted on this forum by many, "Buy the Seller" and you won't go wrong. I guess we all have to learn that lesson at some point or another, unfortunatly, some learn the hard way.
Happy "watching" all. Ken |

Having more posts is not the answer, of course..
But, demonstrating a commitment to the Forum and recognising and abiding by the rules and guidelines goes a long way... as a Forum, we simply do not need any sales or attempts to sell on the Discussion Board - our mission is to inform and to enjoy a common interest; not to sell anybodies watch... I'm sure that we do make some errors and deep six some reasonable requests..but, we do need to be consistent in application and diligence.........

Here, here Larry.
But as Paverman says, let's also beware of the folks who build a ton of posts in a short time with non-sequiter comments / ignoring the OPs question and offering a simple "Welcome" or "Nice Watch" |
