Yacht-Master Question
I am interested in following in JJ's footsteps and buying a SS/PL Yacht-Master.
My question is, when do you guys think that they will upgrade the clasp? And do you think they will make a larger case such as the GMT-IIc? I am a huge fan of the new case sizes and superior clasps. If I bought one today and saw that it would get changed soon, I would be banging my head into a Looking to avoid regrets. Thanks in advance for your input.

IMHO as long as you don't buy BNIB you should get your money back in case you decide to flip if a new one comes out.
I've noticed pre-owned YM prices like to hover around the 5-6K mark and just stay there. Or you can always do Rob's clasp modification, Pep.

Tough to say Pep...Who really knows with Rolex!
I do think they will upgrade the clasp in the near future but I doubt the case will be changed!! The YM has its own unique case shape which works very well and it's comfort is second to none..... It is a great watch you'd be proud to wear I'm sure!!

Thanks guys.
Jib you make a great point. They do tend to hold their value pretty well. Maybe its the platinum? Rob, I actually had the watch for 1 year and a half and loved it, but it wasn't mine. I have been on the fence for my next purchase. I want to sell my Panerai to buy something else. Right now it is between this one, a ROO (can't get myself to pay that much..at least not yet), or a vintage. But again, the vintage I like are over $10k. That is why I think that the Yacht-Master is the perfect watch for me now. But I scared that the clasp will be updated. Rob, was the new clasp easy to find and expensive?

That is what I am afraid of. No one think the ROO rubber clad is really a good comparison. I mean value to value? What I am trying to say, does the watch warrant the extra $$$?

Thanks Rob. My wife thinks I am nuts. I am the sort of impulsive and very indecisive at the same time. All this and I will probably walk into an AD to buy the YM and walk out with another Panerai.
When I bought my GMT-IIc, I went in to see the bluesy ceramic. Am I alone in being this damn crazy?

Jib, I want to support the great sellers here, but I like to see what a watch looks like on my wrist first. If the difference in $ is negligible, then I end up buying from them.
I ALWAYS tell them that I can buy it for "x" amount on the internet. They always come back with the authenticity crap and I say, "Look, either you can match the price or I'll take the risk. I am stupid that way." No sense in trying to explain what TRF is. But, let me tell you, most are really feeling the competition from the internet. They hate being priced against the sellers.

The important part is that they feel the need to compete, which is good for the buyer.

Sometimes what looks great in pics doesn't really look great on the wrist. This would be the only drawback to internet shopping.

My fear and drawback from buying online. Which is why I said that visiting an AD and having them come within $100 of the internet price persuades to walk out of the store with the watch.

Rob, I have seen your transformation to your YM. And man.....the watch looks 10000000000000 times better. I LOVE IT!!!!!
Send those pictures to Rolex and see if it motivates them to make the change.

Actually, Pep, I prefer the older clasp with the block finish design on it. This way, you can't see any scratches as opposed to the smooth PCL clasp which is a virtual scratch-magnet.
Don't worry about the modifications - there may NEVER be any. It's a terrific looking watch - dressy-cum-sporty - and I wouldn't let some silly clasp deter me from buying one. JJ

How have you been feeling there buddy?
JJ, you are right about the magnetism of scratches. But man, I love the feel of that clasp closing. It is soooooo smooth and crisp.

Thanks for asking. Well it's Day 5 today and I'm at home. Tuesday afternoon here, 3:30 pm, and I'm still a wee bit miserable. Medication is still on and I'm hoping I can at least get back to work by next Monday. Cheers - JJ
