Hi Wil!!
Congrats on the purchase of your 1680! Thatīs a classic dive watch. I own one I bought brand new in 1977, and was my only watch during several decades. I still own it, and enjoy using it, having fond memories of great dives with it.

Iīve been visiting the Florida Keys History of Diving Museum at Isla Morada during my holidays last February, and was amazed at viewing that fantastic collection of diving helmets, and other vintage types of diving equipment, that I thought I could only see in dive history books. It is truly an awesome collection, very nice people helping at the Museum, and a MUST SEE place for anyone interested in diving and its History.

Its web site is: http://www.divingmuseum.com/

And here is my own 1680, by the way.

Hope you can post a nice photograph of yours!! Did you take pictures of your watch at the Museum?? Would like to see them!!

I took hundred of pictures at the Museum (photos allowed!! Thatīs great!) but no one at the 14060m I was wearing on the occasion.

Best cordial regards, Abel.

well here is my 1680 finally was able to upload.....

^Able , your story is amazing how can anybody keep a watch for so many years .I originally traded a Glock in 1990 for a submariner 16800 matt dial ,the problem was years down the road everyone critizied me for having an old rolex so I sold it and bought a new seadweller. almost instantly I regretted selling the 16800, and finally now I was able to purchase another vintage sub (1680) which I am very pleased I did. the watch is more me ,and the history behind it is also very nice.

Hello Wil!
Great 1680 you got! Looks in fantastic shape!
I wish youīll enjoy it as much as I do with mine!
Itīs a classic timeless design of a diving watch!

Yes, Iīm very attached to my own 1680, after so many years wearing it.
It was bought brand new and presented to me by my wife, in February 1977, a few days after I lost my beloved 5513 during an armed robbery I suffered here.

That 5513 was a much loved watch, as it was a present of my parents for my 18th birthday, in 1966. It was my first Rolex, and the fullfilment of an old desire of owning a Rolex, and it meant a lot to me. I really miss that 5513, and though I have a replacement 5513 now, I still wish I had that original one!

Back to my 1680, let me tell you that I only serviced it at the local Rolex premisses twice: around 1992, and now in April 2010.
Could you believe the movement and inside watch was pritine clean when opened last time?
I have used it as a daily wearer, as well as in sport scuba diving.
The only thing it required, was a complete cleaning and oiling, change of gaskets, and a new "top hat" plastic glass, as the original one was very scratched.

Thank you and cordial regards, Abel.
