The theme was originally composed for the movie M*A*S*H, which was quite a bit more grim than the TV show. Recall the "last supper" for the dentist who was going to kill himself. He swallowed what he thought was a fatal dose of pills, but in reality only took sleeping pills.

"You're My Greatest Love..." the theme from The Honeymooners. Composed by Jackie Gleason (who couldn't read music).

Only know Miami Vice, Cheers, and Magnum PI.

I thought Miami Vice was by Jan Hammer.
I haven't Googled it, just thought that was the name on the credits.

Took a film class in college where we studied four directors, including Robert Altman. Enjoyed the class and appreciate Altman but I can't say I really was blown away by his films.

Among current shows, the theme from The Big Bang Theory by the Barenaked Ladies is one of the most recognizable.

Catchy as heck the All in the Family theme, but when I saw the reruns, I thought it was a bit of a downer (like the MASH theme).

But Archie Bunker . . . what a character!

It still brings a smile to my face.

I think much of the appeal is Carroll O'Connor's and Jean Stapleton's really selling it.

They made a great team.
