after ive worn my gmt II all day and i know its fully wound, if i put it down , its stops after only 20 hours at rest. I thought they could be at rest for 40 hours without stopping. Why whould i only have a 20 hour reserve?

a full day would not neccessarily mean it is fully charged.
Try winding it - 40 turns, then wear it a full day and then leave it off. should last at least 40 hours!! If not you may have a problem

I just figured it would be fully charged by wearing it for 8-10 hours.

Let's say you wound your watch manually with 40 turns of the crown and wore it for 16 hours straight during normal everyday activities.....For an active person, you may have the equivalent of 35 to 40 manual winds of the crown left in reserve(after 24 hours). For the not so active, you may have 25 to 35 manual turns of reserve left(after 24 hours)!! To sum up,wearing only really keeps your watch wound and does not actually increase the wind!(Unless you are very active or run a marathon ETC..) Wearing your watch for only 8 hours will never keep your watch fully wound at any time...It's like putting half a tank of gas in the vehicle and hoping you'll get a full tanks worth of miles out of it... If you only ever wear your watch for that amount of time,I'd manually wind every 3 to 4 days before letting it rest for the night because the chances are it'll be stopped by the 4th/5th morning if you don't!
